A squirrel. I find myself unsure if I’d rather swerve to save a squirrel or swerve to save a protester. Neither of them are particularly aware of the danger that moving cars represent. Purely personally, I’d rather save the squirrel, but the hassle involved in hitting a protester is so much greater that I may swerve to save both.
All that is left of Madame Sherri’s Castle, an early 1900s mansion in Cheshire County, New Hampshire. By Paul McClay via Flickr. Dan, is this close to you?
Reg, the law is in place to convict us of wrongdoing. To show us our sin. The law is a curse upon us but we have been redeemed from the curse of the law when Jesus because a curse for us. I’ve never felt convicted for eating shrimp. Possibly because it’s not what goes in that destroys you but what comes out. I like the POM. Not because it’s pretty but because it gives your dark site a little orange hue.
Michele, you don’t get to choose whether you feel convicted or not. What if a homo says “I don’t feel convicted for having butt sex with other men”? Nobody cares how you feel. The law is the law. It is either in effect or not.
If your conviction came from His Word, there would be none of this nonsense about how you don’t feel convicted when you eat shrimp. His Word is clear on that. “You shall regard them as detestable; you shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall detest their carcasses.” You’re just picking and choosing which rules to follow, which most Christians do. “Christian” homos do the exact same thing.
Leviticus 11:9-12 ESV
“These you may eat, of all that are in the waters. Everything in the waters that has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers, you may eat. But anything in the seas or the rivers that does not have fins and scales, of the swarming creatures in the waters and of the living creatures that are in the waters, is detestable to you. You shall regard them as detestable; you shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall detest their carcasses. Everything in the waters that does not have fins and scales is detestable to you.
Deuteronomy 14:9 ESV
“Of all that are in the waters you may eat these: whatever has fins and scales you may eat.
That’s not true, Reg. You’re invalidating the Word when you dismiss Jesus’ Word. If the law was fulfilled in Him and He said, “It’s not what goes in that defiles the body”, why are you crucifying me? I am not under the curse of the law but if you reject His Word, you most certainly are and if you aren’t doing the impossible by obeying every letter of the law, you are guilty of breaking the whole law and your wages are death. Are you under such a delusion of perfection that you think you’re not under the curse of the law because you declare no religion? That would be laughable if it wasn’t so gravely serious.
Michele, this is not complex. There are two schools of thought here about Old Testament law:
Old Testament Law is no longer in effect because Jesus came and fulfilled that law. The rules set out in the OT about food and not mixing threads and so on do not apply anymore.
Old Testament Law is still in effect.
You (and most Christians choose a third option):
Old Testament Law is still in effect when convenient for me and is no longer in effect when inconvenient for me.
This must be your thought. Salvation through contradiction.
This is true. Almost too simple for you to comprehend.
This would also be your school of thought, which explains both your confusion and contradiction. It’s a mixing of 1. and 2.
Anything less than perfect obedience in the law produces a curse from the law but if the law could produce righteousness, Christ died for nothing.
If you place me under the umbrella of the law, you are condemning me to Hell. There is no conviction in the law, only a sentencing. A death sentence. Cursed shall I be in the city, and cursed shall I be in the country. Cursed shall be my basket and my kneading bowl. Cursed shall be the fruit of my body and the produce of my land, the increase of my cattle and the offspring of my flocks. Cursed shall I be when I come in, and cursed shall I be when I go out.
Do you feel accomplished, Reg? I have given you the law to condemn me.
Anything less than perfect obedience in the law produces a curse from the law but if the law could produce righteousness, Christ died for nothing.
Michele, I have no idea what any of that mumbo jumbo means and I don’t think you do either, which is unsurprising as I don’t think it actually means anything at all.
You either need to obey the Old Testament laws or your don’t.
I don’t because I think the Old Testament is a lot of crap and I choose not to abide by it, and I will suffer the consequences, if any, after I die. I doubt there will be any, but that’s irrelevant.
The question is whether Christians need to obey the Old Testament laws. You’re a Christian and you seek eternal life through Christ. Do you need to obey the Old Testament laws or not? If you don’t, then neither do homo Christians.
This is not as complicated as you’re trying to make it out to be. I understand that, because if Christians didn’t try to obfuscate this and hide behind a bunch of catch phrases, they’d have to answer simple and fair questions like the ones I’ve posed.
If I am bound by the law then, no, I don’t, anymore. Under the law I am only given one chance to get it right. There is no repentance under the law. I failed. There is no longer any hope for me. I’m dead under your judgment.
Galatians 5:15
True. Proverbs 11:9
Yes, Reg, but Christ doesn’t shield me from the law. His promise is to deliver me from the curse of it.
Galatians 3:13
True, but it’s more complicated than you’re capable of understanding and since you don’t answer fair questions, you’re exempt from the law and may now accept the lie that you’re free from it.
The concert hall is at the edge of skid row. Everyone has heard of the homeless problem in LA. At least they built this, though. At least they didn’t just say, “ok, our city is going to be an excrement hole, we give up”. They may lose in the end, but they’re fighting the fight to keep LA beautiful.
