That’s very pretty. I love the way lights reflect off of water. Double the brightness and beauty…from a distance. I could never live in the heart of a City line that. Too much traffic
Michele, traffic is for suburban people who visit the city. People who live in the heart of the city generally just walk a few blocks to wherever they want to go.

A few? You mean like 2 or 3? Or do you mean like 15 or 16? That’s too far to carry groceries. That’s too far for one big bag. I would never adjust.
It’s obvious city life isn’t for you. That said, I will answer you. In downtown Vancouver, you are never more than a few blocks (2 or 3) away from a grocery store. Almost all grocery stores deliver, too. Beyond that, there are apps like Instacart which let you just click a few times and a nice driver who speaks no English will bring you your groceries for a few dollars.

When I was in Japan we walked or took a train everywhere. It was very rare if we took a taxi.
Our food delivery services drop your food at your door and text you. They don’t even knock or ring. These services will stay post covid. I rarely use them. I’m probably in the minority, but I really like grocery shopping.
If my grocery store was within 5 blocks, I’d probably go 3 days a week.
My grocery store is about 100m (110 yards for the Americans) away. I go at least 3 times a week, but if it’s heavy I’ll click the app and have someone else do it.

That POM…the view from where it was taken, that’s how close to the city I would ever live. What a beautiful view. Did you say this was Ukraine? For some reason that’s not the image I have of Ukraine.
Is that the only upside to living in the heart of a big city? Tell me there more because I can tell you more. The traffic and noise would get on my last nerve. Hahahaha I’m one of those neighbors that would probably yell at another to shut up…but only if I was certain no one would know it was me that said it lol. Ima coward that way.
Michele, it’s obvious city life isn’t for you, but no, that’s not the only upside. You are in the middle of beautiful things, the best grocery stores, the best restaurants, the best everything really, and you can visit museums and symphonies and art galleries several times a week if you choose. Isa and I walk to Canada Place constantly (the white funny looking thing protruding into the water), to the point where we know our favourite benches. We can jump on the seabus from Canada Place and enjoy the north shore or a water ferry and enjoy the south shore. All without getting into a car. I keep telling you, there is no traffic for those of us who live there. None. Traffic is for other people when you live downtown. There’s also no noise to speak of. You might be thinking of the 70s stereotypes of big US cities with honking horns and gridlocked streets. Vancouver is nothing at all like that. The only thing you’ll hear is people laughing and birds chirping and drug addicts screaming at the moon if you go a few blocks east of this photo. But seriously, enjoy your suburbs. Nobody’s asking you to move downtown. Make your choice and enjoy it.
My town has 24000 people in it. The city next door has 87000. My last city had 105000. Fairly small. Boston actually only has around 600000, not counting burbs.
I probably will never live in a big city. At least for the next 15 years and at that point they will probably be more unaffordable than they already are. There are advantages to both, but city living has been obviously harder post covid as well as losing its pros.
I don’t really have a desire to move to a city. If a job said, we will pay you 200000 to work in boston but you are on call, I’d move to Boston.
