True, but the mass killings only began after the Final Solution was formalized on 20 January 1942. There were plenty of individual killings prior to that, but that which we call the Holocaust began in 1942.
In Colombia nobody cares what you talk about. There’s more freedom of speech here than anywhere in the western world. I’m concerned about Canada, where it’s technically allowed but they will destroy you if you do (much like in the US). Totally seriously, if BBAD started having discussions on this topic, I would probably move the hosting to Russia or South America where those types of discussions are permitted. I wouldn’t participate in those discussions anyway, however, since I still have a life in Canada I have to go back to occasionally.
Will, I appreciate the thought but as long as I don’t say things that aren’t permitted I am at no risk. You can say whatever you want at your own risk although I doubt you deny the Holocaust so you are probably not at risk. The only one here who has opinions that could lead to trouble is Daniel and he hasn’t been around lately. If he came back and started posting Holocaust denial stuff, I would consider moving the hosting to a country where that was allowed, but even that would be no big deal. Just an hour’s work.
By the way, I do not deny the Holocaust at all, even inside my head where it’s still safe to do so. I sometimes ask myself if the numbers quoted are possible given the population data we have, and I read the accounts of how the Jewish leaders turned down an offer to save almost all Jews because they felt that the sympathy resulting from a massacre would help them later form the state of Israel on Palestinian land and I wonder if those accounts could be true. None of this justifies the systematic slaughter of Jews, however.
Even questioning those points can be dangerous in both our countries, though, so I choose to not express strong opinions on this subject. I hope you feel free to write about anything you like.
I can understand not tolerating holocaust denials but discussions of events leading up to the war would seem to be fair game to me. Nevertheless I will let it go.
I just watched a documentary called Citizenfour about Edward Snowden. It was all first-hand stuff, actual video of him during his escape from the US and divulging his information to Glenn Greenwald. It was both fascinating and scary. They know more about us than almost anyone realizes. Orwell’s 1984 had nothing on this world we now live in.
I’ve seen that documentary and it is riveting and compelling. Scary too when you realize you have absolutely no expectation of privacy and the degree to which they are able to follow your life. Highly recommended. Snowden is a hero and for that he will be hounded by them for the rest of his life.
Snowpiercer was brutal. I watched it alone. My wife and I don’t expect the other to watch movies we know they will hate. I was surprised how much I liked it.
You guys are lucky. My woman always begs me to go to the movies with her, which I usually do, and we both know in advance I’ll hate it since I hate almost all movies.
