Because, quite obviously, I don’t stick to starvation forever. There are three phases almost all of us go through: weight loss, weight gain, and stability. I spend 99% of my time stable. Sometimes I gain, and when I do, I take drastic measures to lose it before I return to stability.
Yes, I know, Reg, but what kind of leader runs out and buys radiation sickness drugs and then warns their country that they are facing nuclear Armageddon?
This whole case was really weird. The defendant defended himself. His name is Darrell Brooks. He was just found guilty of murder. He purposely drove through a Christmas parade. He’s pretty calm here.
A few days ago, our own animal shelter in Faget, Romania, with about 100 street dogs, got heavily flooded by the nearby river. So much got destroyed. Food. The electric. Shelters. Dogs had to be rescued even by the fire fighters and with tractors. Puppies even were placed in cars of workers, to keep them somehow dry and protect them from too much cold temperatures during the night. No idea how those cars ever can be cleaned. Some dogs went missing. Some came back, some were found days later kilometers away. Many panicked due to the high water. That’s awful. Animals really haven’t changed as the morals of many have gone downhill. There is currently a shortage of veterinarians, but I don’t think that will be the case in 10 years. You still have to deal with humans as a vet, though. Sometimes, at their worst.
My old secretary just posted on FB that her son died. He would’ve been 20 or so. Horrible. I have no idea how it happened and won’t ask. I hadn’t spoken to her for 7 years until I left a comment on her FB post about how sorry I am. I don’t think it would be right for me to go to his celebration of life but I’m not sure. There’s no rulebook for this stuff.
The Romanian helpers and workers like Adriana, which put so many of the dogs into her own house, as well as the founders of the tiny german private organization, are the real heros. Unbelievable the stress they endure, and the work and money they invest. Countless tears as well.
This is how the house of Adriana looks like since she put some of the shelter dogs into it, as there was no other place to keep them dry and save.
She’s an angel. She is employed at our shelter, but she works wayyyyy more than she had to and we can’t paymuch money. She can’t look away. Those humans are so rare and usually don’t make much money.
It is a nice thought but I think it would be awkward. And I don’t want to go. lol. I don’t know anyone there except my former secretary who I haven’t spoken to for 7 years. I have never met her family or the young man who died. I will think good thoughts for her from home.
You are very welcome, Gunda.
I find myself musing a bit. I honestly don’t know what is right here. We make these animals dependent on humans and totally unable to look after themselves. It can’t be right. If it’s a harsh winter or a plain gets flooded, nobody tries to save the bears, beavers, moose and deer in Canada. We just accept that they will die. It’s nature. These dogs, however, don’t know how to survive anymore, and they’re in the middle of a city so if they hunted, they’d just be killing someone else’s pets. This is an ugly world, as you once pointed out, Gunda, where nothing can survive without killing something else. That stuck with me. It is very true.
mostly yes but not completely:
“you must be at least 18 years, have a certificate from a psychiatrist and judicial resolution.”
then again laws and romania; they also have a law that all dogs need to be spayed or neutered but with the low standards of living they have there they prefer to fix the homeless dogs issue by killing them instead…
and if you have money then most laws suddenly disappear quickly as well
Killing is one thing. But if that means to kick them out into the streets if they became unwanted, sick or too old, or to starve them to death on a one meter chain (just yesterday Adriana and Gabriela, one of the daughters of the Gantners, got the allowance from a family to take their dog which was kept only on a half meter (!) short chain), to neglect them till they start to rott, bind them on a tree inmidst the forest, putting them in a sack and throw them into rivers or lakes, beat them to death or kill them under pain by injecting fuel into the heart - then I disagree. Especially as even killing all stray dogs at once wouldn’t be a solution as long as humans finally start to neuter their dogs. Humans are the problem. Not those dogs, which furthermore only exist because humans either breeded them or didn’t neuter them as they don’t care. But those people are the first who view dogs as the problem while it’s them who should get neutered or killed in first place.
And btw., in public shelters they usually don’t feed the dogs on weekends.
They were able to save 3 chain dogs from their horror called life. The chain of one of those dogs was way too small.
