I’m happy to repost that. It is one of the most beautiful Christmas songs I have ever heard. It is not just about fishermen, although it starts off about marineros (sailors). But then it goes on about people who are in the hospital at Christmas, and those who are just alone without family or friends. It is about anyone who does not share in the joy of Christmas. I feel this very deeply, as for much of my life I was too busy chasing worthless dreams to enjoy Christmas. I am grateful that I have a second chance now. Frohe Weihnachten, Gunda.
I personally find songs the most beautiful and with a certain „depth“, if they aren’t just cheerful. And this song has both, joy but also some melancholy. Perfect mixture for me.
Heaven on Earth
We need it now
I’m sick of all of this
Hanging around
Sick of sorrow
Sick of the pain
Sick of hearing
Again and again
That there’s gonna be
Peace on Earth
Where I grew up
There weren’t many trees
Where there was we’d tear them down
And use them on our enemies
They say that what you mock
Will surely overtake you
And you become a monster
So the monster will not break you
It’s already gone too far
Who said that if you go in hard
You won’t get hurt
Jesus, can you take the time
To throw a drowning man a line?
Peace on Earth
Tell the ones who hear no sound
Whose sons are living in the ground
Peace on Earth
No whos or whys
No-one cries like a mother cries
For peace on Earth
She never got to say goodbye
To see the colour in his eyes
Now he’s in the dirt
Peace on Earth
They’re reading names out
Over the radio
All the folks, the rest of us
Won’t get to know
Sean and Julia
Gareth, Ann and Breda
Their lives are bigger than
Any big idea
Jesus can you take the time
To throw a drowning man a line
Peace on Earth
To tell the ones who hear no sound
Whose sons are living in the ground
Peace on Earth
Jesus in the song you wrote
The words are sticking in my throat
Peace on Earth
Hear it every Christmas time
But hope and history won’t rhyme
So what’s it worth?
This peace on Earth
So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
And, so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let’s stop all the fight
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
And, so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And, so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it,
War is over, now
This is the only song you’ll hear with Reg is a host. Reg wishes everyone a rotten Christmas. One that smells like he does deep down inside and all without.
Maybe, but even the worst Christmas song by McCartney can’t top Whams. McCartney also wrote a masterpiece with Pipes of Peace, which still manages to send a shiver down my spine when both sides crawl out of their trenches.
I wonder if Hitler joined that international choir singing Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht (an Austrian Christmas Song btw.) on that particular night in his trench.
Just as I write, this is shown on a tv channel covering Bavaria and Austria, 3sat). I enjoy my home countries traditonal alpine music, if it’s like that. Calm and solemn. Never was the party goer as most music there was just brain dead, regardless which music style.
I also enjoy their brass music in it, but only found this string piece.
I have a cashapp I need to look up the password and haven’t used in over a year. I also am going to finally give in to VENMO.
When I get those I’ll give you my information. If you want to throw some Canadian dollars my way to see if it changes your luck or like you would casting your bread upon the waves to see it returned I’ll give you that option.
You don’t owe me anything. You can give to whatever charity or spend the money on a watch for yourself. Remember, I can survive without you.
My situation could get so bad you won’t be able to give any kind of support or help to me. Or I could easily become self sufficient and prospered to the point any such thing would be laughable or ludicrous.
I’ll spend the money on myself and my needs. No charity, no church, no gifts to others.
What good would this do you? You answer that for yourself. It’s an opportunity.
I would spend it on yourself. Or not spend it. Housing is a massive problem. I wouldn’t buy gifts either. On Christmas this year, I’m letting the adults know that this will be the last year I get an adult a gift.
