I’d love to see that Will. I have an 18 foot ryobi drill. Actually, my edger is 18v too, so I just use the same battery. Yes. I will have to have home depot cut. Shelves are something I could F up and not care about too much. The first hole I put in my house was the mailbox. I guess I’ve been here long enough to put unnecessary holes in it.
I put a porch swing together, but I have not hung it. I’ll take a picture of the swing and where it might go. Hanging it should be much more difficult than putting it together. I water sealed it and apparently used more than I needed. Felt like it took forever to dry. Right now it is on the floor. Taking up prime ping pong real estate.
An 18V Ryobi is a fine tool and should serve you for a long time. I think you should be ok with the shelves. If you have design doubts there are woodworking plans online that are simple and well drawn. For the porch swing you need to make sure the hardware in the ceiling is mounted to rafters above the ceiling but I’m sure you knew that. After a few years in your house you’ll be drilling into it like a madman and glad to do it. There are so many projects you can do to improve your home (and increase its value). Take your time, think it out. Measure twice, cut once. Your confidence will grow with each project.
For the shelves, white pine or poplar (to be painted) are easy to work with. Consider 3/4 " plywood with a veneer of real wood and edge banding that you apply with a hot iron. It comes out looking like solid wood and is a lot cheaper. The Depot guy can show you what I mean. Strong too.

I’m watching Carlsen a lot on YouTube. He’s great to watch and I like him much better since following him there. He has no respect at all for grandmasters. He says things like, “oh look, some French grandmaster, let’s show him some world champion moves”. lol.
The sinquefield cup has started. Almost the same players, except Anand is playing. I’m guessing Anand is not a great blitz player anymore. He is the only player that won in round 1.

Chess replaces the third period of physical education class.
I love chess! There is nothing quite like finding the strategy needed to put your opponent in checkmate before they realize what happened. Exercise for the mind. They should make this mandatory globally.
I totally agree. There are a ton of things that should be mandatory in school. Chess, Spanish, French, accounting, history, algebra, cooking, pharmaceutical use, self defense and so on. School would be harder if Reggie was in charge.
I have been dominating connect 4 at lunch. My guess is I’m about 30-3 over the last month. I didn’t know it was possible to dominate connect 4. Much simpler than chess.
I sold a waterpik flosser on facebook marketplace for $20. I also bought a grass spreader for $15. Both good deals. There is some really good stuff on there for cheap and some absolute crap. It seems pretty competitive. The chess sets look to be this way as well. I wonder if craigslist is dying.
We also bought barstools. I have unused snowshoes on there now for $20. There are people having yard sales all the time for free. I guess they are moving and need to ditch. I’m waiting for a good cheap outdoor deck box to store patio cushions.
Just sold my old beat up outdoor connect 4 for 35 bucks.
