Iāve had a few hours to cool down but I havenāt. I honestly canāt believe FIDE let this stupid outcome occur. Imagine if the Superbowl teams get tired of playing overtime and say, āletās just share the championship.ā? Totally idiotic. The purpose of a competition is to declare a winner, not to hold hands and sing the Barney The Dinosaur song.

My guess is once Ian agreed with Magnus, there was a 0% chance anyone was going to force Magnus to play. He would have rather not played than get the trophy and FIDE wasnāt going to DQ him again. Then who gets the title? Nobody?
There were problems with the tournament. In round 13, the top 8 players drew in about 10 seconds so theyād just advance.
I agree that FIDE should not have caved though. I wonder who agreed to let that happen. Magnus was probably tired. Niemann match probably took a lot out of him.
Next year all the players can refuse to play after everyone draws their first game and they can all come in 1st place.

Yes, that was excellent. I agreed with him on everything. I didnāt know about the match-fixing video clip so that was interesting to me. This was a stupid decision.
At the end, he said some interesting things about the future of chess being full of boring young players who donāt talk to the media. Thatās particularly interesting. I actually feel chess (like F1) has no future at all. First, nobody cares who the best chess player is when my phone can beat any of them. Second, nobody wants to watch a bunch of Indian guys who donāt talk, and when they talk they say nothing. I know nobody in real life who cares at all about chess and I donāt think I know anyone who can name the WCC.
Magnus is in meltdown mode in my opinion, and will start losing within a year or two. Hikaru is irritating and will retire soon, too. Nobody else in the chess universe even has a personality. Chess is probably done as a spectator sport.
