I never used to care about sitting low but I do now. I want something with lots of suspension travel.
The Toyota Crown has amazing suspension travel (more than most large SUVs). It’s hybrid, though.

You should, considering how many gas guzzlers you’ve probably had over the course of your adult life. Dan probably understands them better than most. He’s owned at least one and may even still own it, idk. How many SUV’s have you owned?
I also didn’t know the Prius was classified as an SUV. To me, it looks like a 2-door hatchback.
You say you eat right and exercise so it will probably be like nothing changed.
None.
It isn’t. I was just saying I understand people’s desire for higher-up vehicles with lots of suspension travel as opposed to low-lying cars like the Prius (and my CC).
Isa and I rode our bikes to the City Square here in Surrey and had Poké bowls. I’m not sure if the poké craze has made it to Oklahoma but we love them and the whole experience of riding our bikes there is just way better than driving cars. I know I can’t live without a car but I love my life so much more when I don’t drive. I might just keep my CC until it dies.
Random photos of where we ride from the last 24 hours. Day and night. When I’m old(er), I might use my electric four-wheeled old-man scooter to get there.
This post demonstrates that you didn’t and probably never do your homework or even consider what you’re getting yourself into with a car like that. There’s no way you can accurately call that a high end vehicle if you’ve never been in the drivers seat and are only judging the class by suspension, which I assure you is not everything. That car has no head or leg room. That may not be important to you since your CC has no headroom either. It may not be an issue with any man who has a smaller frame, like Dan, and it’s certainly not important to me but apparently it’s extremely important to Dusty, who is not a giant but at 5’11”, needs headroom. The Prius and even my car has plenty of space with 40”, which played a huge part in our decision to purchase when we test drove my Sonata. Both your CC and that Crown has a disappointing 38” of headroom. With the Crown, the seat was mounted too high. Because I was once in a vw when it caught on fire, I would never own one, so I didn’t attempt to search the problem with the head and legroom of that vehicle.
I don’t recall ever calling SUVs high-end vehicles. That said, some clearly are. A $250k Lamborghini Urus SUV is clearly high-end. I don’t like it at all but it’s high-end.
I have driven many SUVs. Probably over a hundred. I rent cars all the time. From Cadillac Escalades to BMW X5s, I’ve driven many.
I don’t judge them only by suspension. I just like having a lot of suspension travel. It feels good to me. I like being able to hit a pothole or a speed bump and not sweat it.
You’re right, I don’t care about headroom, although I’m also 5’11". That said, SUVs have more headroom than most sedans.
I like my VW but I’m not married to the brand. I just don’t like most modern cars more, so it’s likely I’ll drive this for a while longer. It still looks and drives like nearly-new.
I translated your “higher-up” reference to mean high-end.
What could possibly be wrong with a Lamborghini, besides the over-exaggerated price tag?
You own a car and you rent also? You are too filthy-rich.
Oh? What else do you look for? Catalytic converter styles?
You can avoid potholes if you spent less time on side roads.
I don’t disagree but they suck gas and destroy the climate.
Well, sure, Reg, that works if you can afford to own a VW and rent a Toyota Crown. You’re taking the wear and tear off your car. Most people live in a more realistic world than that though.
I meant literally higher-up, like higher off the ground.
Lamborghinis are uncomfortable, ugly, loud, unreliable, and low-tech in addition to being stupidly expensive. The experience of owning a Toyota RAV4 would be far better than owning a Lamborghini Urus. It also irritates me that most people mispronounce Lamborghini. It’s Lambor-ZHEE-ni.
Aside from suspension, I look for comfort, appearance, reliability, safety, technology, practicality and overall style. I also look for the availability of dealers, service, parts and the cost of repair.
I agree that gas SUVs are bad for the environment. I’m not sure if electric SUVs are. If they are, the difference seems nearly irrelevant.
I have made it a practice to just relax on the road, drive the prevailing speed, leave lots of room, let people in ahead of me, and just generally refuse to be stressed. Given this approach to driving, I just don’t see how high performance in a car helps me at all. The car may have 800 horsepower but I’m still going to drive at whatever speed the cars around me drive.
Fun to look back on this. NIO went from $6 to $60 and is back down to $10. I never bought it. I was too chicken then and am too chicken now.
I’m 5’11" and about 182 lbs. I weighed 153 5 years ago. I’m doing well lately there though.
I’m 190 lb (87 kg) and I look a bit fat. Not obese but fat. Trying to get down to 79.
I agree with all of that and thanks for the pronunciation lesson. That’s what I love about this place. I learn something stupid everyday.
You must be disappointed often.
Irrelevant? It takes 5 raw materials to create 1 battery that they need to stamp a big red “drive at your own risk” warning label on because there is a fire risk if they overheat while being charged.
Well if you’re going to follow the crowd, you just need to rent a low-to-the-ground Prius or you could always pay someone to drive you around in one of those uncomfortable, ugly, loud, unreliable, and low-tech Lamborzheeni’s.
And that’s what I love most about the Sonata. This car drives itself but if it gets within so many feet of another car, it does alert me with a terrible sounding alarm that I hate. It’s a trade-off for safety so I have become adjusted to the deafening noise it makes.
You could just stop tailgating people.
You could stop idolizing every car that comes your way too.
I’m also looking at 79 kilos. If work is not insane, I can get there. Or I could pull an oppenheimer. He slept 3 hours a night and was a rail.
You couldn’t pull your panties upright without spousal instruction, Oh Great Arbiter of Morals.
I’m not sure if this really is the future but it sure is a nice concept.
I like it, although the fake fireplace was a bit much.
Nothing is perfect but it is unique.
Car prices are still ridiculous. I think used will come down and then new, but slowly and not a dive. People wanting to buy a used car are underwater, so used have to come down. If you can buy cash, should be a good spring. I don’t know who has 35000 sitting there, doing nothing. Any extra, I put into mortgage, so I will never be able to buy a car with cash.
