While watching this, I was reflecting on Katrina and the massive amount of water it dumped in New Orleans. However, it didn’t possess the potent wind power Ian had.
I admit with Ian, the wind and a record 7.26 surge battered the Florida coastland all day pushing water miles inland leaving a path of destruction that will take them some time to recover from. To me, that’s nothing. Even though Katrina was a Category 3/4 and Ian was a Cat 4/5, Katrina’s 25 feet of water, caused by the engineering of a flood protection system break responsible for the water that breached the levee, overwhelmingly reigns as the most powerful hurricane on record.
There is no question that Katrina was worse than this. Their recovery would be worse, too. Western florida is fully of rich yuppies. New Orleans, is certainly not.
It shouldn’t have been. We should have had a thoughtful president. Bush had access to FEMA and failed to use it. He was as helpful then as Biden is now.
