Your friends are his military. That makes him Canada’s enemy. Why is Canada doing business with the enemy?
How did government work before federal taxes were imposed on the American people?
Excises on fun things like booze and tobacco. Tariffs. Tariffs were paid the same. It’s always been the importer that pays them. Taxes were paid to the state and passed to the federal government.
Then, Wilson came along. He is definitely the most underrated president of all time. The federal income tax wasn’t flawless. I believe it was a flat percentage, not based on income.
They tried prohibition after the federal income was created, thinking they no longer needed the excise on booze.
FDR had the richest taxed at 94% in the highest bracket. Eisenhower had it at 91%. The middle class has shrunk since the highest bracket is now 37%.
So only the people who bought something paid for it, right? What’s wrong with that system?
What does that tell you? That tells me that I pay both tariffs and federal taxes.
You do pay tariffs and federal taxes. Or the importer pays the tariff and you pay them back.
I didn’t complain about tariffs. There are pros and cons. Without them, we would produce even less than we do now. There are some cons as they are tough to change and international relations can change. Look at us with Russia and Germany compared to 80 years ago.
I didn’t say tariffs were bad. I said it is embrassing to have had a president that can’t grasp how they work.
I almost thought maybe he did know how they work and he just says China is going to pay the tariff, because his followers like the sound of that even though he knows it’s BS. I have given him too much credit in the past for trying to sound dumb on purpose, which can come off as relatable to some. He’s just an idiot and cannot seem to learn. He is 78, so it is somewhat understandable, but not an excuse for a President that he didn’t know this earlier.
He’s stupid and doesn’t know how it works. He also thought Mexico would pay for the wall.
Sounds like he has had everything given to him his whole. China and Mexico just said “No. We will not give you money when it provides no benefit to us.”
You support both tariffs and taxes on Americans?
You don’t think international relations have already changed?
You don’t even know what embarrassing is.
Embarrassing is pointing out how embarrassing an American leader is when you are in a different country.
Oh, yeah. Can you share more BS cause that what we like to hear.
I do. So does Trump, obviously, since he imposed huge tariffs and only cut taxes for the rich. Both of these things are necessary in the world we live in.
No, they aren’t. You add insult to injury. Tariffs alone are enough run this country.
Michele, you make me chuckle. Income taxes raise over 30 times as much money as tariffs.
USA federal and state income taxes: $3,100,000,000,000
USA tariffs on other countries: $95,000,000,000
I know but it all goes back into political pockets in the form of kickbacks and you support that.
Michele, you need to be less simple. All tariffs in the US, of all kinds, on all countries, are not even enough to pay for your country’s annual road maintenance.
Michele, you need to be less simple
What does that mean?
All tariffs in the US, of all kinds, on all countries, are not even enough to pay for your country’s annual road maintenance.
Then what do we need tariffs for?
Then what do we need tariffs for?
To save your industries.
From what?
Leaving over high taxes?
Michele, your auto industry cannot compete. It has nothing to do with high taxes. In fact, corporate tax in China is much higher than either Canada or the USA.
It has everything to do with unionized labour costing more than the non-union labour in China. It has everything to do with US safety and workplace health standards being far more rigorous than those in China.
All those things are valid. I want workers to make a living wage and be safe, healthy and happy. But this costs money. China puts workers in giant dormitories where they live/sleep/eat/breathe their work. They pay them just enough to survive. We can’t compete with that, so we have to keep their products out of our markets to save our own industries.
