We got Putin, who’s hybrid war stops european airports from operating. The US has Trump.

I’m heading to Toronto. Family emergency. I may be infrequent for a few days.

Good luck.

Hope your mom is okay.

Ty. She’s not ok but she’s also not facing imminent death. It’s the best we can rationally hope for

Glad you made it there.

Back in Vancouver. Had a good visit. Got a lot of things settled about her care. I’ll fly out again in a few weeks.

I hope they hurry up with the robots because nobody’s going to be helping me like this when I’m her age.

I should return to normal on BBAD in the coming day or two.

You can afford to hire help.

Nobody wants to do that kind of work anymore.

i think that taking care of family and in particular elderly is a normal responsibillity for the family, but in reality the majority of my country feels its our governments job to provide care preferably via a nursing home

There is no family anymore, Nico. I have no children. If I die at 80, Erika will be 70 and won’t be in any condition to help me walk or get out of bed. She can’t lift me now, much less then. And when she dies (let’s guess 10 years after I do), she’ll probably be totally alone.

Bring on the robots.

well if you can hold on a bit longer robots will be a valid option, or you could also still adopt some teenagers?!
it might be difficult to find some that are caring enough to help out if/when you need it though;)

Adopting a kid (or birthing one) just makes it far more likely that I spend the last 20-30 years of my life nursing some depressed and dysfunctional dependent than some smart young person will help me when I’m old.

Then call MAID. You still support MAID don’t you?

I definitely support MAID and hope to avail myself of it when my time comes. MAID is a choice the each patient makes when they decide it’s time. Speaking purely personally, I will need care for some time before making that choice.

I hope it never comes to that.

It will, unless I’m fortunate enough to just die quickly of natural causes. I’m not worrying about it. I hope to live 20 or more years.

Heading back to Toronto again. I hope I don’t linger like this when it’s my time.

Getting an Uber to the Abbotsford Airport. Couldn’t get a flight out of YVR (the main airport here) so I’m heading to Abby. They don’t even have aircraft gates. You have to walk out to the tarmac and walk up the stairs into the plane.

Small plane? I flew out of Manchester NH. Only 15 gates at the whole airport.
