News Priorities

I now learned that one of those other people was the chairman of Morgan Stanley.

Not a bad day.

Assad has fled! I had hoped he would die but I will settle for this.

From this, I assume you believe Syria has a right to exist.

Syria in its current form is about 80 years old, much like Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iceland, Vietnam, Jordan, India, Pakistan, Burma (Myanmar), Israel, Sri Lanka (Ceylon), South Korea, North Korea, Indonesia, Libya, Cambodia, Laos, Sudan, Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, Malaysia, and Guinea.

Most of these nations got their independence from some colonizing western nation. Most of them are worse off for having done so.

I don’t care about borders, much. They are a reality but they change occasionally, and will change again, usually through violence. Sometimes this is a good thing.

I care a bit about governments, but I acknowledge that those change too, sometimes for the worse, sometimes for the better. This change in Syria may go either way, but Assad was a pig so I celebrate his downfall. It would have been nice if they had been able to kill him, but I’ll settle. At least he’s gone.

You can blame Israel. Assad is not gone. He’s hiding behind Putin in Russia, probably terrified of be showered with bullets and with good reason.

Israel is certainly taking credit for it. This new group appears to be friendly to Israel, which is odd for Islamic Jihadists. Good. Let there be peace at least on that border.

America is probably paying them to be nice to Israel.

Xmas tragedy.

Some Asian guy in Vancouver drove his car into a festival of Asians.

Does that make odds less that you will have a diabetic blackout at the wheel and do the same? Will you try and contain it in a community event or amongst other diabetics such as yourself?

I know this is news priorities, but why are you posting it? What are your priorities and how are you trying to take racial digs?

Mark, observing that this was an apparent example of Filipino-on-Filipino violence is not a “racial dig”. It is a statement of fact.

You used the term Asian twice earlier. You mentioned the Indian festival but you did not include them with Asians although India often includes itself as Asia.

You are not organizing a vigil,.go fund me, or support prayer group. You are giggling and gloating aboit a bunch of dead people and their festival food over the roadway as if somehow they deserve it for simply eating which is always unhealthy when you refer to others.

You used the term Asian before to try and make yourself like some intercessor or mediator. You are trying to hit a nerve with people of specific Asian identity. You don’t seem clever rather you make it clear you are a coward.

Was that some Canadian offering for you Burma Man?

It’s not really the focus. It’s the event security. They could have removable bollards for these events. Vancouver police saw no threat or need for heavyweight barriers. They could have just parked their vehicles blocking the street allowing vendor access after screening and preventing an unauthorized vehicle from coming in at high speed.
This woman mentions that who had a booth there. It’s not the first time something like this has happened elsewhere. Events are becoming an easy target for vehicular attacks.

But you don’t think like that it cases like this. This was an opportunity to desk with your shameful feelings by using tragedy to try and shame others.

Mark, I didn’t shame anyone. I simply observed that this was Asian-on-Asian violence. That doesn’t lessen it or excuse it.

But no barriers.

I don’t support barriers, correct. I don’t want to live in a prison camp.

There you go again having people envision that group as belonging in a prisoner camp.

I was clear about blocking off the street with either parked service vehicles or bollards pylons which could be removable for events.

Yes, and the vibe changes with parked vehicles and bollards. It’s also misguided. Anyone can board our SkyTrains or enter a crowded area with a knife and injure multiple people. If someone intends to use a car as a weapon, they could just target any downtown Vancouver sidewalk and cause similar harm. Unless we plan to install bollards and parked vehicles everywhere, these isolated measures offer limited protection.

Pepe Mujica died. I really liked him.
