Julie, I like churches. They’re peaceful and pleasant, and they often help to de-stress me. That’s all. I don’t believe any particular creation story and I have no idea if there’s a supreme being out there. I know I’ve never met him.

Today I was in a part of Medellin where a gang war is going on. It’s so dangerous that most Ubers won’t take you there. It’s a long story why I was there and I won’t bore you with it. I hung out in the main park but the locals weren’t chatty. Too many recent murders for them to trust an extranjero right now. I went to the church in the park (there’s always at least one) and the fat priest said “bienvenido!” loudly and everyone turned around and smiled at me and I felt safe and at home. Nobody asked what creation myth I believed. It was nice.
