Do you think major religions will last for the rest of humanity? I would say that they will not. The major religions have not been around very long, when you think about how long humans have been around. Nobody believes in Greek gods, but they used to.
I wonder what the next major religion will be. I think it’s going to be difficult to create a new major religion. The scientologists had an interesting tactic of being very private. I think that makes growing a cult more difficult. They also had competition with so many people already belonging to a religion.
The only way major religions will survive humanity is if we manage to kill ourselves off as a species, which I don’t consider implausible. If we don’t kill ourselves off, I would expect educated nations will be <10% religious by 2100. Will anyone call themselves religious in 2200? Honestly, I doubt it, beyond fringe groups of no statistical relevance.
