No because he had done nothing to deserve tasing. He just suddenly announced he was going for a swim and then jumped in the water. To have tased him before that would have been an abuse of power. To have tased him after that in the water would have likely killed him (or someone).
Yes, I’m saying that in a way. More accurately, it’s not worth it to me to risk my own life to attempt to save his. If it’s worth it to others to risk theirs, I have no quarrel with them.
That’s how I looked at it. He didn’t deserve a tasing.
If you had known what the outcome would be, would you have tased him? I think the cops would have been put on leave for tasing an unarmed homeless man posing no threats.
I’m not sure I can even answer with confidence for myself.
I think a lot depends on the consequences of this hypothetical. If I knew that tasing him would save his life (and wouldn’t kill him) and I knew that I wouldn’t get in trouble for tasing him, I would probably do it.
If I would get in trouble for tasing an unarmed homeless guy and I might spend a year or two in jail for that crime, I’m sorry but his life just isn’t worth that much to me so he’s going swimming.
The latter would likely be the case in Canada (and in the US from my understanding of your system).
This is an interesting case, only because of the 9th shot. The robber was clearly immobilized by the first 8th shots. Was the 9th necessary? I personally don’t care. Good job. Give the shooter a medal. Cue the video to the 1:11 mark.
The embed above has the best (uncensored) video. Here’s a pretty good analysis by NewsNation with worse video.
Do you think he can win? I don’t. Mostly because he resigned. If he was fired, he might have a chance.
I don’t think he should win. I also don’t think usps drivers should have to deliver for amazon on sundays. I don’t even know why mail is delivered 6 days a week. 3 seems fine. I don’t need any amazon deliveries on sunday. Waiting an extra day for cat litter, mouthwash or razor blades is fine.
I’m not with you on this. Spreading the deliveries out over the week just means a smoother operation and less failure on any individual problem. It also requires fewer trucks and drivers. If there are 700 deliveries to be done over a week, it’s much better to do 100 per day than 233 three times a week. If the truck breaks down or any other problem occurs, you only have 100 deliveries to catch up on the next day. You also have no half-time workers and all full-time workers.
Another vigilante justice case. I have a hard time feeling sorry for this guy. I doubt the family who beat him is a significant threat to reoffend. I say tell them we’d prefer if they didn’t beat the hell out of any more child rapists and let them go. Or maybe just let them go.
