We are talking about the same person and I have seen him spin out of control many times. We have rewarded him with far too much attention already, however. This will only encourage him to launch similar attacks in the future as he knows he will get attention from those (especially me) who generally ignore him.
Fortunately, yours is the easiest to ignore.

What Bill said was completely unacceptable. I know and you know that no man is going to step up and tell Bill he’s out of line. So someone had to step up in here and be the man. While I do not know for certain what her response was, I’m certain if it were me, I would have burst into tears and that hurts me for her. I suspect you didn’t process it the same way I did. You immediately jumped to his defense by calling out my words as contradictory to my actions, allowing Bill to escape the same shaming you are giving me.
