Ham Radio

Never really got to finish here about the bugs and all and if they are capable of communicating or just simply distorting peoples thoughts by producing or delfecting or altering already natural and artificial radio waves existing. Radio waves are produced naturally by some phenomenom. But Erika is very good at recognizing bugs but made the same mistake with weevil I did initially and with the shield bugs, no they are not predator bugs or vampiric.

Also yes, she wasn’t the only one sugesting to kill them although some said to just leave them alone. I did listen to several buddhist podcasts about certain monks going out of their way to never even step on an insect or spider or creepy crawly in their path. I don’t know how they factor overpopulationa nd destruction of food sources in their philosophy however.

Tell Erika thank you for her expertise and help in identifying and also her advice and let her know she is also entitled to her stincky piña as anyone else.

I bought a Yaesu FTM-100DR for the car. A friend had it for sale and I thought, why not? Now I find myself chatting while driving in what used to be contemplation/reflection time. I’m not sure it’s an improvement.

What sort of antenna?

Just a mag mount quarter wave. I don’t want to drill holes because I might not keep the car. If I buy that little convertible, I would drill holes.

Which convertible is that?

Looks nice you never wore one a web belt did you?

You like leather basket weave?

This one. I have to go to Colombia and will decide when I return whether to keep the VW, buy the Fiat, or have no car. All are options at this point.

RF was the wound ugly.

Good fugly took the bait time to strike down the head of the beast

Here’s the radio I am considering -

I just noticed that quoting the other message somehow didn’t bring over the photo. Here’s a picture of the Fiat. They’re going cheap these days because convertibles are dying out. Only old guys like me want them now. Also Fiat may leave North America which will make them even cheaper.

Interesting choice. I’d want something that goes 80m to 10m at least, myself. Still, I know you’re only into CW so this might do the trick.

I was able to find it with a search. Cool looking car and enough power for its size.

When I’m back in Canada, we should try to see if we can hear each other on HF/CW. I’m not proficient in Morse yet so I can’t have a CW conversation but it would be cool if we could at least hear each other on CW and then hopefully as I get better over time, we could communicate more. I’d have to buy a shack radio but that’s in the plans.

Right, along with the challenge of QRP.

That would be cool. I’d probably have to drag out my old HF rig and get a directional antenna but it would be a hoot. Don’t think I’d have a chance QRP.

Get an iambic paddle and a MFJ keyer for practice. I use a Bencher paddle and the MFJ is fine. Worked the world with 'em.

Right. I’m planning to get a 100w shack radio when I get back. I live in an apartment so antennas are a challenge. Still, there are some options and I plan to try it. I’m on the west coast facing west so the only way I could reach you is the long way around, but that’s still quite possible from what I’ve seen. Maybe wait until I make some contacts in Florida to prove that it’s possible, then we’ll see if you want to dig out the old rigs.

Great Circle route lol?

Yes, it’s the only way. Nothing’s going to make it through the concrete skyscraper I live in going the other way.

EDIT: A friend of mine from one of the radio clubs I belong to does HF mobile. He has hit Florida many times from his car. That’d be interesting to try, too. Shack radio first, though.
