Thereās no Indication or even proof to support your claim, that marriage only exists because of religion. And regarding money, yes, thats an important but neccesarry part of marriage - as well as non-married relationships, as it always was about surviving. You need possessions to survive and to live a comfortable life, and a relationship serves exactly that - for BOTH men and women. For most part of mankinds known history, in most cultures the man got all the possessions of the wife. Thankfully, now itās more fair, as in many cultures, both partners may keep what they got before Marriage and only share the gain since Wedding.
