I went up a hot air balloon. It was tethered but went up pretty high and held for the view
As a child I loved lying in the grass and watching my buzzard kite fighting against the light wind up there. I always was fascinated with flying. I am not a fan of speed and also not of risks for my life. I envy the hang gliders the most, as I never would dare to do that. Btw., I like the German term for that sport better (Drachenfliegen). It literally means „dragon flying“. Anyway, never would have the courage to do that. My second most favourite flying tool are gliders. Way less risky too. It‘s elegant, also calm if no motor is involved or switched off after the start. And what I love the most on flying is not in high heights, but as low as possible, preferable over water along the coast. Then a sharp turn up to take up speed again (this in particular must be the best feeling ever), and then down again shortly above the water/ground.
As a child, I often dreamed I could fly lightly over the ground by myself, lol.
Like this German guy does it in New Zealand. Beautiful. Sigh.
But these guys are the kings of the air to me. What he says in the beginning - exactly. That‘s why I am so fascinated by hang gliders.
Just hit the mute button. Terrible music.
“For us hang gliders, the beautiful thing about our sport is we think there’s no other sport in the world where you can feel like a bird. The body position in the air is unique, looking down to the Earth, and if you’ve been flying for a while, you don’t even think about how to steer your wing anymore, it becomes you and you fly with your instinct and, I think if you dream about flying as a kid, hang gliding is what makes this dream come true.”
His English is awful, btw. lol.
This is so crazy skies Brazil! A condor landing on a glider
OMG Do you remember Condor Man?
His first flight fail! Ooh tour Eiffel! I remember see this in France.
His grammar and word choice or also his accent? Anyway, he definitely speaks better than I do, lol.
Ooo lala
You know the raptor by the outstretched wings circling for prey and less flapping.
This eagle however shows it power by not taking flight in a powerful hurricane and protecting its eggs.
I remember fly up straight high into sky hot air balloon. Good thing the tether It gave the odd sense of losing a balloon as you watch rise slowly out of reach.
So I flew but not over the cuckoo’s nest lol!
Vulture flies very impressive although I admit it is somewhat difficult to watch Michael Keaton as a villain having really appreciated the actor as Batman.
Morbius also fly but is more like gliding.
Maybe one day we will a supervillain. This is a hoverboard without wheels that actually fly, it was illegal without permission
There are many flying today with wing suit, hover board, and even jet pack.
But nothing like thee grin goblin
Just rewatching the video and I had to think what if someone would offer me a flight for free with a paraglider or skydive? I would say thank you and politely ask if I could give this offer to someone I know who would love and hence appreciate to do that, lol.
I have zero interest in those two. Hang gliding or a real glider. Those are mine. At the worst (but still better than paragliding or skydiving, would be a military jet, flying low, for that you notice the incredible speed). Not too much turning please, as I have a very weak stomach, as much as I would love to be able to experience those maneuvers. But I once got seasick on a ship while it still was on the river and not yet reached the sea, lol.
I guess deep sea fishing is out of the question.
lol maybe not, our little north sea or the baltic sea are just like rivers
I loved doing a bungee jump once. Would be great to be able to do that again, but only in a similar gorgeous nature surrounding as it was back then. I enjoyed standing at the edge, looking down and around me, because I felt safe, and shortly up into the sky to breath deeply and to absorb the energy shortly before the jump.
I envy those guys in the wingsuits (not the parachuters), but I never ever would dare to jump. But it must be incredible and the most exciting experience one can do as a human (after creating life).
I bought these two blue huge workout bands 150 pound strength each. I put them on a pull up tower and would do pull ups and run in the air like the incredible hulk doing long leaps. It felt just like flying.
Flying must feel awesome.
I don’t envy her for the skydive (because I prefer to fly than to fall) but for that swing. Especially for those few milliseconds of the swing you get when letting off that bar.
I post it here, because I posted here about extreme sports like climbing, which I don’t get my head around, why someone needs or want to do such highly risky stuff. And usually, I dont waste a second of my time or empathy, if the news informs about someone’s death because of such to me senseless risky doing. But not this time.
Sat in the car yesterday morning, when the news about Laura Dahlmeier made it to me. The news anchor said, she declared in her lifetime, that no one should risk their own life only to rescue her in case she needs help or had died on the mountains. She was even active in the mountain and ski rescue of her home town Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Graduated in both as a professional mountain and ski guide. Reinhold Messner said about her climbing skills, that she belonged to the worlds best female climbers. I was shocked. And I shed some tears hearing this.
I liked her and respected her highly for stepping back from the Biathlon sport at her peak. Having won everything. Way too young actually, I think she was only 25 years old back then. Meanwhile I know why. She had two goals as a child. Winning Olympia and climbing in the Himalaya. After winning Olympia Gold she wanted to increase her climbing skills to fulfill her second dream. I read that when she dreamed as a child, she always dreamed about the Himalaya. I was obviously wrong believing, people go to extreme activities mostly only, because they are bored with life. Because life is too easy for them. It must run deeper.
Read the interview of someone who once got help by her after a skiing accident and he described her like this: “Unprätentios. Kameradschaftlich. Nahbar”
Yes, that was my impression of her as well. No arrogance. Down to earth. Or as he said “Unprätentiös”. A comrade you only could wish for to have by your side.
For the sake of her parents I hope her body get hauled from that Pakistan mountain soon. That must be terrible to vision the body of your child lying alone on a mountain so far away. Despite its still nicer than to bury someone in dirt and darkness. But the mind or maybe its the soul who is strange that way.
Have a good journey, Laura, if there is any. I doubt it. But mankind certainly lost some precious, helping and friendly human being.
