There is something wrong with this statement. Let me think about it for a little while. 
Thereās no contradiction. People are like that. Many claim to love even women yet treat them as subordinant beings (hence the men have the last say on decisions) or demand from them to take care of the family and stay at home but donāt comprehend why itās than just the right thing if those women from that time on get half of their partners income incl. pension.
Or take those horse soldiers here. I bet they all love their horses. What Nico doesnāt get is, that many riders treat their horses well and their horses come even to the owner at the meadow, as they know they are going to get ridden.

This shows that you never had a pet you loved, if you compare this love with what horse owners feel for their horses. Of course there are also bad horse owners, just like with any other pet. People can cause pain, knowingly or not. But this is no reason to me (and thankfully also not for most people) to forbid to keep pets or ride horses. Luckily the knowledge and awareness of people increases.

the bad horse owners are all the ones that ride or let others ride their horsesā¦ so almost all of them! and those should indeed all be forbidden ownership and fined for animal abuse

And no, horse riding per se is no abuse if the rider and horse physically fit together regarding weight, the rider isnāt using the wrong gear and learned proper riding. Would a horse voluntarily go on tour with or without rider? Of course it rather would go without, like any animal kept would prefer to roam free - but thatās only possible in Utopia. And just because itās impossible doesnāt equal it already as an abuse. Even humans canāt only do what they want.

No it wasnāt ridden before. As a rider you can see it from the reaction of the horse when the trainer lays her upper body over the saddle. No horse which is used to riding would go away but stay.
