John Lennon, a heroin addict by his own admission, left his wife, Cynthia Powell, for no particular reason other than to marry Yoko Ono, an open marriage in which they both slept with other people and did heroin together. Lennon eventually gave up heroin (hence the song Cold Turkey) for cocaine. That people now see him as some kind of saint amuses me.
I donāt view him as a saint, if thatās what you implied. He neglected or even abandoned his older son. He was an asshole for doing this. That doesnāt change the fact that I like many of his songs. Thatās alike Cat Stevens. He is a Muslim zealot and yet I love many of his songs to pieces.
I did not mean to imply that. I had no idea what your opinion of him was. Many people, however, regard him as some kind of saint and beacon of peace because of his silly āGive Peace A Chanceā song. He was not. He was a very flawed man. I am not judging. So am I. But nobody goes around pretending Iām a saint.
some might if you write a similar brilliant songā¦
Ok, that was funny.
Macy Gray likes cocaine and hard alcohol, but at least she doesnāt like heroin. Iām not joking there. Some artistsā vices seem to be ignored. Itās true on Lennon though. I canāt think of a bigger musician that is idolized as a martyr than him.
Lol.
I canceled Amazon, but stll have Alexa. As Alexa donāt let me chose a specific song anymore, I mostly order Bruce Springsteen, as he is the artist with the most songs I like. I just ordered, and this great song is played.
I will say that most people think of him as an overweight womanizing drug addict at this point. Heās certainly more popular than Lennon, but nobody says a negative thing about Lennon. Thatās idolism to me.
Maybe if Lennon wasnāt murdered, he might not be idolized so much, but he seemed to be quite a bit at the end. If Elvis was murdered, maybe nobody would bring up his flaws, but thatās not the case.

interesting, i would assume most american people would say negative things about lennon since he wasnt a christianā¦ then again most americans probably dont know who he is
why not install some addblocker, open up youtube and listen to something like this? (13 hours of 80ās music lol)
I canāt explain it, but I have never heard anyone say a negative thing about him in the USA. Nor his song, āImagine.ā It doesnāt make sense because of all the religious fanatics we have. Youād think Alabama would dislike him. Maybe, they do or donāt know him.
Great band and singer.

How much do people really know about him? Because Lennon was murdered his life was immortalized as a victim. Who in their right mind is going to attack the character of a victim? I think Imagine is one of the prettiest songs Iāve ever heard but the lyrics are most disturbing.
Elvisā death, directly related to drug addiction and his inability to walk away, gave the world a reason to scrutinize every part of his life because he was no victim. I love his music but I donāt listen to it much anymore.
Elvis also was very possessive and controlling regarding his wife, while he was whoring around.
That may be true or not, idk. I never knew that but for kicks and giggles we can run with it while we glamorize an open relationship of infidelity between Lennon and wife and why? Because they have been painted peacemakers, even though Lennon was linked to the corrupt CIA, just as Elvis was.
