Christmas Music

I don’t know what Kelly Clarkson song is among the worst ever but I’m happy with that.

I know it’s late to be posting Christmas Music but I found this (thought I had lost it) and it’s magic. I know it’s not popular but I love Russians. I know a lot of them. They are rough around the edges and perhaps a bit too plain spoken and they throw tantrums but despite that (and perhaps because of it), I love them. I refuse to dislike the Russian people because of Putin.

Are there a lot of little ones in your family?

If I were you my goal next year would be to look at other people and say, “I’m sad, I never cared enough to understand their life, nor am I willing to experience that.” A little more challenging, especially for a man. I’m sure if you ever decide look into your own soul you can theirs but I’m glad I don’t have your life because I would fail miserably lol.

I finished my Christmas decorations yesterday and thus I am ready and in the mood.

Einen schoenen, gemuetlichen 1. Advent.

I promised myself not to post another Drummer Boy version this year but I can’t resist.

I don’t promise not to post 10 more versions of this one though.

Also this is sicky sweet but I like it.

My Drummer Boy prohibition isn’t going so well.

Also this.

bah humbug! it should be illegal to do anything related to that commercial fake fat creature!

and doing it even before sinterklaas (a real saint!) is here, is outrageous!

Yesterday, some co-worker brought self-made Christmas cookies. Oh my God were they delicious! I ate the most, I admit. And Sia’s way to sing sounds like she’s eating while singing, lol. I sounded similar the whole day, lol. Luckily, today I don’t need to work, as I am going to drive down to my Mum for her 85th birthday. But no rest from delicious Christmas cookies. I bet my Mum already selected a few for me to take with me back home.

What kind of inspiration does an atheist draw from music that glorifies God?

I love to listen to people singing about their beliefs and culture. I like Skáld (Norse), Ravi Shankar (Hindu) and Ofra Haza (Jewish), too.

To me it’s totally different. I look at it with the heart and eyes of me as a child. Loving parents, the lights on that tree, the aromatic smell of it’s needles, which filled the room. The excitement of all the secrecy and the waiting, till a strange, kind figure called the Christkind finally arrived at our house to lay the presents below that shining tree with elegant, warm red Christmas baubles. It’s a memory of the annual highlight of a happy childhood and caring parents. The religious aspect of a baby, who saves the world despite the nasty creatures his equally sick Dad created and topped this cruelty by demanding from his son to die for them, added to the solemn, quiet atmosphere, when we sang our three regular Christmas songs. They weren’t happy songs, but warm, hopeful and joyful ones. Similar like this one here. No word about his cruel and injust Dad. A song about a baby, his love to save us and the love of his mother for him. Only when I heard from my local priest, that I can’t become a ministrant, because I am a girl, I realized, that this belief system isn’t a just one and thus not for me. So, today, Christmas is not about religion to me. But only about my family, my memory and my hope.

If you found a religion that was favorable toward women, would you then support that belief?

Hope in what?

Depends, as I don’t believe in the existence of a God. But if the community is based on equality of men and women and I like their other rules and community, I might join. Humans are herd animals after all.

Hope into a kinder, better world.

The United Church is very liberal and feminist. So are the Unitarians. The latter even changed the Lord’s Prayer to, “Our mother, our father…”

Is there such a place in the world?

Sure. On the paper. The scandinavian countries come pretty close to that ideal community. If they now just would make religions and their adherents to change their teachings for that other believers/non-believers, women and gays aren’t viewd and treated as second class citizens and worse, subordinant beings, they would be paradise on earth.

This will never be paradise to me.

a shopping centre, an ikea, no churches, some green trees and hills, not too crowded… only missing some water but looks pretty good to me!
