‘Don’t travel to Australia’: China warns citizens of racism
The Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism has issued a travel alert to its citizens warning them not to travel to Australia due to a “significant increase” in racist attacks on “Chinese and Asian people”.
The statement issued on Friday (local time) said the alleged attacks came in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, racial discrimination and violence against Chinese and Asian people in Australia have seen a significant increase,” the statement said.
“The Ministry of Culture and Tourism reminds Chinese tourists to enhance their safety awareness and do not travel to Australia.”
The warning came after China’s state-run tabloid Global Times published an editorial warning Chinese students to “be cautious about studying in Australia”.
There have been anecdotal reports of people of Asian appearance experiencing increased racism in the wake of COVID-19.
This warning from China could further sour relations between the trade partners.
Last month, China announced an 80 per cent tariff on Australian barley and blacklisted four major beef exporters due to labelling violations.
But Beijing denied the new trade measures were retaliated to Australia’s call for an independent investigation into the global pandemic.
I don’t think anyone will listen. That’s a nice statement to say that racism does not exist within the same race and members of a race will not often discount others of their race based solely on race. Those actions define racial identity and are racist actions.
Not only that, but people will actually go to just to try and experience racism against themselves, often times by being unknowingly overdemanding of it. It would be a priority of agenda. Supply and demand. You can demand something by restricting supply of something else…just figure out what.
The Chinese are among the most racist people on Earth, far more so than the Australians.

You are basing that on populous alone. Populous is a major factor in tolerance.
Relying on racial tensions to hold a system together and using racial tensions to make a system functional are the indicators of a very poor system.
This isn’t in China but it’s about them. I wonder if we won’t see more of this as time passes.
People want relations at any cost. You will.
I think we will see more. Chinese companies operating in Africa and South America come in promising to raise the standard of living for the population but end up exploiting the natives and living in exclusive communities. They do not assimilate.

This is just bizarre. The US administration, which campaigned on a ban of Muslims entering the US, and which implemented that ban over and over again until it passed the Supreme Court, now sanctions China for persecuting Muslims.

It’s honestly amazing what Trump has done to US credibility. When Obama said stupid things, and he did (such as his silly speech on exceptionalism), people felt the need to respond and argue the case. Now Trump says stupid things and people just say “oh, it’s Trump, let’s wait until one of the adults in the room talks”.
It’ll be interesting to see where that goes. Right now, when Biden says anything, stupid or otherwise, people say, “sorry, did you say something, Grandpa?”. It should be better for him when he’s president. If he’s president.

If the United Nations is going be effective in their globalization efforts, they absolutely must hold China accountable.
