Chess

yes! lol
oh wait hikaru did win 2 out of his 13 games, rest all draws lol

still; dubov and sarana also didnt lose any games, while magnus did lose 1, so it was an even more unfair tourney than the football worldcup!

Lol.

magnus also won the blitz (also thanks to an insane game vs rapport!)

Let me guess. He looked bored?

This just has the feeling of being the calm before the storm in chess.

magnus seemed happy and kinda relieved to me
hikaru had a big lead after the first day but in the end it was quite close between a lot of players and carlsen only ended up 1 point above hikaru and martirosyan and 1.5 points above anish, duda, dubov and sarana

also note that both magnus and hikaru lost 2 games, while anish only lost 1 so he should have been declared the winner in my book but alas those silly unfair rules lol

Do you seriously think a draw is as good as a win, Nico? Because that’s the only way Anish wins.

no i think 1 loss is better than 2 losses
any tournament should be about winning and losing and the luck of the draw should not matter, so preferably everyone should play everyone
(which would have meant an extra loss for magnus against niemann lol)

One loss is better than two losses, and two wins is better than one win.

sure, but but when thats mostly decided by the luck of the draw its unfair

What do you think is better? 1 win and 1 loss or 2 draws?

they are the same to me

How about:

Player 1: 3 wins, 1 loss, 6 draws (12 points)
Player 2: 5 wins, 2 losses, 3 draws (13 points)
Player 3: 0 wins, 0 lossss, 10 draws (10 points)

For me, Player 2 is clearly the winner even though he had the most losses.

sure, if they all played the same opponents that would be a clear winner

but the reality in these tournaments is that some get to play more careless/attacking players or more players ranked a lot lower…

ah hikaru returns to visit and play the coffee chess guys… can say what you want about the guy and his silly youtube but nobody promotes chess the way he does!

True but he is so irritating that I wonder if it’s not a net negative. Chess has no Bobby Fischer these days. Magnus appears to be in his last years as champion, and all the alternatives are uninspiring.

Nepomniatchi vs Ding starts tomorrow for the world championship. I can’t remember a championship with less attention. I’ll give Russia a 1.1 from 1 to 10 on morality and China a 1, so I’ll root for the Russian. Nepo seems to be not a fan of Putin, anyways.

Magnus is about to lose his WC by not playing.

Draw.
