England is worse at chess than they are at sports. Not only have they never had a world champion. I don’t think they have ever competed for a world championship. I can only name 2 decent players ever. Too much alcohol, perhaps. Now, they are pathetic. Probably the worst of any developed country with a population over 30 million.
Nigel Short and Michael Adams both challenged but never won. That’s two in 30 years. Canada is even worse. It’s been all India and Norway for 10 years. Magnus is playing a Russian for the championship later this year in Dubai between November 24 and December 16.
Yes. Canada is worse. I was going back about 140 years. The godless dutch even have a world champ. Adams and Short are the only ones that come to mind for England.
I could theoretically play chess in person at at a library, cafe, or pizza shop 18 days per month. The pizza shop and cafe do not require masks but the library does.
I thought you moved from Lowell. Or do you still work there?

I went to the new lowell chess club. I went 4-0 and decided to stop playing so I didn’t lose. I was probably tied for 3rd out of 12. All levels.
I printed a few more. Will take me a while to print. I don’t have a lot of free time and I’m spending more on making kombucha and blueberry jams than I am on chess pieces. And yoga. Didn’t love how the knight came out. Will have to work on that one.

lol@stopping playing chess so you wouldnt lose, that reminds me of my dad who beat me once at chess when i was 16 and he doesnt want to play me again since
