Chess

My friend’s girlfriend lives in Bangor, Maine. They like chess. Not as much as I do, but more than most. He texted me this last night. I love seeing chess picnic tables in the park. If I was handier I would make some. Perhaps I could. It’s very cold in Bangor as you might imagine. They probably wont get used much until May.

I also asked him how nobody stole the pieces and he said nobody in Bangor would be rude enough to steal them. Nice. I always assumed you’d need to bring your pieces.

Its 100 dollars off. Still too expensive. $289.

White to play. Mate in something like 6.

Here’s another.
Black wins a rook.

So does white with pressure on the knight.

I haven’t really thought this through but knight to A6 looks nice. If PxN then B-D5++. If P-H2 then K-C7++. If B-G4+, K-C7 followed by B-D5 should give mate in a few moves.

Did you receive AIDS? Chess is a very old game I’m sure you are just following previous patterns that have been played countless times you can do nothing original or different.

Is chess any different from ham throughout the centuries? This is your legacy?

This one is harder for me. I’m not seeing how black wins a rook. As black I would probably go QxP. If white plays QxR then black matches QxR followed by mate. If white defends that, black can play RxP which is a nice attack but it’s only winning 2 pawns, not a rook.

First time seeing this and solving it in seconds where others in history took weeks even months or years?

Do you actively solve chess problems or just keep willing/wishing “look smart” to others?

Mark, if you look more carefully, you will note that I didn’t find the solution.

I have seen people do the same with Weightlifting

I saw that and it would be a great move but the king is in check. I agree with Dan. This game is almost over with checkmate close.

You’re right. This game is much better and that move changes everything. I haven’t been awake long enough to know what to do here. I’ll come back to this in a little while after I’ve looked it over and thought about it more.

Black is advancing to the bottom. Neither king is in check.

B7 pawn doesn’t have white king in check?

The only move I see here for white is Qd1 and take the loss. Unfortunately, it’s been so long since I’ve really played chess that I can’t see beyond one move at a time.

Reg got the first one. Excellent!! That one took me longer once black was able to take the knight with his bishop on a6, eventually. White just has to his bishop along that h1-a8 diagonal and eventually black is going to have to move its bishop and will be mated. He could wait like 50 years to move that bishop. Like brett kavanagh.

For the second puzzle…

First move for black is…

R-g3. Threatening Rxg1 mate and Qxe2.

So white must play. Q-e1 to avoid the black queen and protect his rook.

Then, Rxg1. Black must take back the rook on g1

Finally, Qxc5.
