Words

It just occurred to me that leave is one of the stupidest words in the English language.

“Leave me!” = Move yourself out of here. Do not stay here.
“Leave it!” = Do not move it out of here. Let it stay here. You can stay here if you want, however.

Apricity

This morning I learned the word apricity, which means the warmth of the sun in winter. I loved this word as soon as I learned it, but I’m not sure if it’s useful since nobody else will know what you’re talking about if you use it. It has fallen out of use and is considered archaic, which is unfortunate as there is no alternate word I know of in the English language.

Nice. With fewer people driving, there will be less apricity in the world.

Why would there be less sun-warmth in winter if fewer people drive?

I have felt apricity for the last week. It has been sunny but cold here for 10 days. Walking in the sun, you feel its warmth and it is comforting, even in the cold.

I feel it when I sit in the car and it’s a sunny 20F out.

Ah yes, that makes sense. I had only thought of it in the outdoor context but your scenario is just as valid.

Oh I love this thread, which I didn‘t see till now. Reminded me immediately on Miranda. :handshake: :+1: :smirk:

Fun.
