Nothing really, other than I haven’t seen either and they are both very large. Phoenix has now passed Philadelphia in population.
I’d visit Philadelphia before Chicago. I don’t need to see the Rocky statue. Movie was eh to me.

Maybe that’s because you keep looking at statistics and culture instead of nature.
What about places you are more familiar with, like Florida? You don’t have to settle for a one-movie attraction. Florida has Universal Studios Theme Park. I’ve been to Florida twice. There really isn’t any other place like it in the entire world and I loved it. We took a road trip along the coast with a waterfront view all the way. Of course, it rains there every day, about the same time but it doesn’t last long. But there is so much there and I didn’t really get to explore all I wanted to see. You could spend weeks there and not see everything. Of course, there is a beach just about anywhere you go. There is deep sea fishing, which I love and hiking trails, if you have the will and stamina. I have neither anymore.
Florida is my least favorite state. I lose brain cells every time I visit. It is the state I’ve visited the most outside of New England.
My inlaws live in pompano beach. This year, any vacation money went to visiting Florida. My wife and I have agreed… 1 visit per year going forward.
I have done quite a bit in Florida. Everglades, Miami, Naples, tampa, orlando, the whole south east, key west, port charlotte.
I find the food to not be great. New Englanders are snobby with food, mostly because ours is so much better.
If I grew up there it would be fine, but the poor quality of the workers at ft Lauderdale airport seem to be a representation of the state. They have insane insurance rates on homes. Their drivers are awful. Partly, because of the timing of their traffic lights. Red lights are so long. Too many run them.
An interesting question. Charleston has a lot of history. Biloxi has a huge waterfront and appears to not be as developed as some waterfront places, so it’s a bit of a time machine. Perhaps like waterfront cities were 40 or 60 years ago. The Grand Canyon is obvious. New Orleans just to see how it has recovered, and perhaps to try crawfish again (I didn’t like it before). Portland is a somewhat nearby city that used to be beautiful but apparently now is a hellhole. Salt Lake City for the Mormons, of course. Boston because it has a lot of things I’d like to see, and Dan has me convinced it has the best people in the US. DC for its museums and monuments.
I have noticed people in the US do that in the middle of the day sometimes. lol. Anyway, age has also affected my ability to drive at night.
No, she loves the day trips. They are relaxed, with almost zero pressure because we don’t have to worry about packing or luggage.
You’ve been to more states than I have, but I’ve been to Montana. Amazingly friendly people.
100%. I do not understand what people see in that place.
Have you ever been to the botanical gardens? I’ve heard it’s pretty there.
It’s better than Oklahoma food. Quite a lot of health food stores, you know, if you do your own cooking.
Not every bad experience in Florida is the fault of incompetent baggage handlers. High insurance is the penalty for living along the coast. You find that anywhere you go. I agree with you about the drivers. Nowhere in America have I ever experienced such blatant disregard for other drivers at stop lights. They just don’t stop, not even for an ambulance and that’s probably why lights are set to stay red so long.
That’s because Mississippi is the poorest state in the country. I’m surprised you would even drive through that state much less spend time there.
Agreed. Too much grit like it hasn’t been cleaned well.
That may be true but Portland doesn’t define Oregon’s beauty.
Interesting. Why would you go visit people on a vacation away from people?
I’m sure there is a lot of rich history to explore there. I’ve been through all the NE states except NH but the only thing I can say is that it’s cold up there.
There is certainly no shortage of monuments and statues but the roads are congested and car horns are overused.
I’ve never been inside a museum but if I were to ever have the privilege of stepping inside one, it would be there and it would be the Smithsonian.
I stand corrected. Night driving is not necessary.
Oh, I’m sure she does but I’m sure she’d like it better if you would stay gone longer. You have to pack something for an overnight trip?
No, Reg, I’ve been through more states. I’ve toured little. Besides people, what else is in Montana?
It’s not called the Shunshine state for nothing.
No they stay married until my Mom died at 73 my Dad was allowed to go to porn theaters and gay bars and after she died my Dad never dated.
I’m sorry to hear your mom passed. I’m sure she was a wonderful woman but I don’t understand why your dad didn’t date again.
My Mom admitted we did not have a good relationship when she was dying. A excellent cook she was drunk 7 days a week after her husband retired and with a university education worked as a mail room clerk or convince store cashier!!! She would say she was coming over and not show up and her house had gay porn and she told me my Dad went to gay bars he told me he went to porn theatres with his buddies. She wore a cross at one time but the last pic of her wearing it was around 1990 it and her Bible were not among her effects when she died. She gave up on church around 1982 and prayers at home dinners long before her death. She and her husband used to drink with a criminal named Mike Zaiser who lived next door at each others homes. I trashed his car after he messed with me I once tried to punch him but he ran back into his condo and locked it. If the guy had just ignored me everything would have been cool but he could not shut his yap. I encouraged her to excercise more such as swimming which she did 2 weeks a year while on a trip but she chose not to.
I’m sorry but she sounds like an awful woman and maybe her death is best for you and her.
She died no one visits her grave my Dad only went once and someone had to arrange it and was quite upset when his enabler died.
Enabler? You mean like a driver? I’m a little confused about what an enablers roll was in your parents life.
Aiding his alcholism. In any case they are dead and gone less said about them the better.
Thanks for clarifying the enablers role and you are probably right. The less said the better. I’m not looking to resurrect your bad memories but in fairness, you opened that door.
