Why the Netherlands Is the Healthiest Country in the world.
The Netherlands is known for many things: cheese, windmills, and admittedly, their lax policy on marijuana. Recently, however, the country has danced once again onto the world stage for another reason: its health. The country ranked the healthiest out of 125 in Oxfam’s recent study, which compared several factors including food availability, obesity rates, and food quality. Here are several other reasons why the Netherlands is the healthiest country in the world.
For the fourth year in a row, the Netherlands secured its top position among 35 European countries by scoring 870 of a maximum 1,000 points.
That defines healthy? Honestly and seriously, hand washing rate is a better indication of health than food availability.
Bloomberg lists Spain as #1 btw. Lots of different methodologies, each having different results. They also list the Netherlands and Canada as nearly identical, and way down the list.
All those other numbers are probably true but misleading. Tax freedom day (the day of the year you stop paying for government and start paying for yourself) is similar in both nations. Infant mortality and unemployment are so low in both nations that a tiny shift can result in a 40% increase. Most of Canada’s coastline is in the arctic where nobody goes.
