Thomas Hardy’s Mayor of Casterbridge. Depressing dose of reality. That book had a huge influence on me.

Anything by Jane Austen, then. Northanger Abbey was light. Around The World in 80 Days by Jules Verne was fun, too, but it’s more of a boy’s book. Some girls like it too, however.
