Since the evidence was similar for all four defendants and because separate trials would force witnesses and relatives to repeatedly relive the trauma of Floyd’s death, a joint trial seems appropriate.
Well, at the risk of not being seen as a good liberal, I don’t think all the cops should be charged. The guy who killed Floyd should be charged, tried and convicted of murder and put away for the rest of his life. The others did nothing as far as I can see.
That Asian shielded Chauvin from bystanders. At least one man and woman, who watched, recorded the entire event and even tried to reason with them. Having said that, no one should get a pass. The other two officers had power to intervene but being the followers that they are, stood idly by listening to Floyd cry out for help and watched Floyd die a slow, painful death at the hands of an officer who took an oath to serve and protect.
You make a good point. I guess I’d need to know more about what they did and what role they played. If they were under Chauvin in rank, that affects things. I will keep an open mind.
