I had to work during this time, so I wasn’t outside. I guess there was probably more kneeling today in USA than any other day in history.
Oddly I started incorporating lunges in my leg workout this past week. At least they are in position to change their vehicle tires.
I don’t know if you quite understand the whole kneeling thing. How is kneeling by these people any tribute to George Floyd if this was the position of the killers and dominators used in taking advantage of his helplessness? Is a testament to his neck strength and lungs like bellows for having endured so long? Of course not. To me that is group of people who are looking to put off on somebody else the choking they should be dying for because of what they couldn’t wash down and swallow what they had for lunch.
Taking a knee is not symbolic of acknowledgement of greatness or a statement of great humbling. Taking a knee means that you have the buttocks and quadricep and hamstring muscle to rise up from it. It means faith in yourself for the righteous who know it is all for one and for all and that several will just dump their weight like slop piles of soaked toilet paper rolls and hold their breaths until somebody else is blue in the face and forced to rise with their weight first. That should be the admission.
What that officer did was the equivalent of rolling back a car by letting up the emergency brake without the muscle power to push it clear of the person he rolled it on. He rose when he stopped choking from his lifestyle at the cost of the first individual he could make pay for it.
Dan honestly I admire you as an intellectual. You are well educated and intelligent and civilized. But sometimes you really miss the point. If you were held by terrorists and forced to your knees to recite the pledge of allegiance with a hand over your heart while they shot you point blank or slit your throat in a video for your family to see…would you want people honoring you by standing up and extending an arm with hand gesturing a gun with the thumb and two first fingers?
Rightfully you should be honored by people kneeling with a hand over their heart reciting the same words.
Why aren’t those people prostrate?
It is because they are doing nothing but weighing in on a tragic death as dead weight. Don’t kneel like angels triumphant in victory over some devil. Don’t slop your mass like a pile of useless toilet paper and make a sad face or serious face like some glutton that overstuffed his or her face. Lay prostrate and put your face into the ground and then pray to be lifted up and your airway blockage cleared.
You know what I would do if I was in power? I would make the maximum earnable wage and equivalent salary 20 dollars an hour.
No exceptions.
A lot of people would agree with that.
Same with a base Ubi.
I would even agree with a UBI. I think $20/hr is too low though. We’d lose too much of our economy overnight. Every industry that makes anything more expensive than basic survival needs would be bankrupt overnight.
No, no it’s not too low.
The maximum?
Could be your dumbest quote. You’ve been listening to mitch McConnell a little too much.
That would be the end of NYC. Which would be bad for USA.
Do the trump supporters realize that if hourly wages went up that means more money going into the federal government? They could hit the minimum required to be taxed for the federal income tax. It might help buy enough paper mache for his border wall. Which he might only have 7 months left to build.
Looks like the buffalo cops are striking due to the suspension of the two cops that pushed the 75 year old man to the ground. Then the police lied about it. They clearly did not know there was a video, so I get why they lied. Mayor is in a tough spot there. I would imagine the police force there will have funds cut. We’ll see.
The old man approached the officer and touched him grabbing at him and ignored shouts and warnings. The officer did not do a two handed shove. It was a distancing done by a one arm extension. The old man lost his balance as he had poor balance.
Hurts doesn’t it.
Just until we reach a better equilibrium.
That would call for some price settings.
Not to mention wealth redistribution.
The other cops agree with you.

I’m not sure I disagree with this, the George Floyd protesters notwithstanding. One of the other cops was on his third shift. What exactly was he supposed to do? Heroically attack Chauvin and stop him from kneeling on the guy’s neck? I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have done that in that situation.
Actually there was no grabbing by the elderly man, he was tapping with his cell phone, the cell phone in his hand prevented him from grabbing anything. His other hand was holding a helmet, which he was not wearing. If he did not have the cell phone in his hand he probably would have done some pinching or grabbing uncontrollably as his arm movement has little control with the cell phone tapping. The cell phone being wedged in his hand probably prevented that, which I’m sure he was aware of. Also he was aware of his height and balance using potential injury of himself to intimidate the officers and allow him to continue the tapping/touching and harassment. He was aware of his feebleness and was using it to press advantage.
If he was wearing his helmet he probably would not have been seriously injured. Before I went out to try skateboarding, kickscootering, and trailbiking again I set up a piece of cardboard and did several practice falls and rolls and wore a helmet. I did not fall, but stumbled a few times. I was not expecting to fall, but prepared for it knowing falls are usually unexpected.
Also the officer that pushed with the baton was pushed from behind by another officer before he pushed. The other officer that made contact used a single arm distancing, not a heavy shove back. Maybe they could have stopped and grabbed the man but they would have had to break formation and weaken their line.
He was warned to keep distance. It was not like he was asking for help with an emergency. He was trying to use his senior feebleness to intimidate the officers to allow him to accost and touch the officers unchallenged. He was warned to keep distance verbally and with an arms gesture. I couldn’t tell if the officers had made contact at first look. It looks like contact was made but very lightly, the old man could have had been rehearsing falls at home. He did have a helmet.
Have you ever done any point sparring or sparring and not known whether you made contact or not? Or have been contacted and not feeling it? Or made a foul contact in a sport without knowing? Hand contact with a soccerball maybe? In sports you see players drop to the ground at any contact and lay there, because that is what they are told to do by their coach to inspect injury. Maybe he is 75, but maybe he knows these drills too. He looked like he was setting up his own fall, but couldn’t engage his neck muscles in they way he expected to.
He was holding a helmet and walked towards an advancing police line.
True he was not in a sumo uniform.
He did not seem to use his height as an intimidation factor in any other way to accent his geriatric feebleness. He was not se feeble though it prevented him from walking up and accosting the officer and tapping him with his phone. He could walk at a pace and extend his right arm holding an object and carry a helmet with his other arm and hand.
