I have been following the NYC mayor race a bit. Only because none of the 3 candidates left are boring. There is a Muslim democratic socialist in the lead. The guy he beat in the primary is the former governor running as an independent who sexually harassed female employees. He is behind by 20%. There is a republican candidate that founded the guardian angels. For those that don’t know the guardian angels, they are citizens that use no weapons and attempt to keep the peace, mostly on subways and sometimes make citizen’s arrests. He is behind ny 35%. The independent and republican both want each other to drop out. The republican is not going to. He seems to like the democratic socialist better than the womanizer.
Here is the republican candidate living in a 328 foot apartment with his wife. They had 17 cats. They are down to 6. The election is in 15 days.

I don’t know Sliwa well enough so even though I’d prefer he, a Republican, win, Cuomo has history with New York that most are familiar with so he’s the only one with half a chance against at Mamdani.
Muslims make up 9% of NYC. It’s hard to tell how he’d do if he wasn’t Muslim. He might get more Jewish votes, so I’m not sure how much it is helping him.
Sliwa supports ranked-choice voting, universal basic income, same-sex marriage, separation of church and state, and a property tax against major New York institutions (including Madison Square Garden, Columbia University, and New York University). He opposes vaccine mandates, critical race theory, sanctuary cities, the defund the police movement, and no-cash bail. He believes in no property tax for elderly homeowners, and a five-year moratorium on income tax for those graduating from college who stay in the city. He’s barely a republican. In 2021 he also won the republican primary, even though he wasn’t even a registered republican before getting crushed in the general by 40%.

Regarding the Guardian Angels: This reminded me on some news I heard last week. Somewhere in Germany, probably even Bavaria, some small town introduced a program, where young volunteers till about 28 of age, are patroulling the dangerous areas to assist vulnerable people and to call the police if needed. The reason for this is, to increase the security feeling to fight the raise of the “polemic political right”, lol.
