I’m not sure I understand that. Why would they want Russia to attack them?

Look out now. There were no invasions during Trump’s administration.

True, and that is to Trump’s great credit.

They do not expect Russia to “attack”. They expect and hope for Russia to invade and take control of the Ukraine and make it a province/state of Russia. They do not feel their (Ukrainian) government represents them and they feel ethnically, linguistically and culturally connected to Russia. They even generally speak Russian at home. They would much prefer to live under the Russian government than the Kyiv government.

If Russia invades and bullets fly, call your Ukrainian friends and ask them again how the feel about the invasion.

I suppose one would need to understand the Ukrainian government to understand that.

They’re obviously hoping that bullets don’t fly. Ukraine should surely realize they can’t stop Russia. If bullets do fly, hopefully they will only fly on the front lines and not in the cities. Kyiv is generally pro-west. The Odessa region (again, Moldova to Crimea) is generally pro-Russia. If bullets fly in Odessa, the odds are it will be the people shooting at their own troops.

To understand the Ukrainian government, you look at cat videos on TikTok?

The Holodomor (Ukrainian: Голодомо́р, romanized: Holodomor, IPA: [ɦolodoˈmɔr];[2] derived from морити голодом, moryty holodom, ‘to kill by starvation’),[a][3][4][5] also known as the Terror-Famine [6][7][8] or the Great Famine ,[9] was a famine in Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed millions of Ukrainians.

We all hope bullets don’t fly but tensions keep escalating between Russia and Ukraine. I blame that on the US. They deliberately provoke Russia with talks of giving Ukraine a NATO membership.

True. Ukraine alone can’t but they have US and NATO support.

Kyivians are not very bright are they? Perhaps if we send another 90 tons of military aid to them they will shoot each other. Then the US and Russia can divide the spoils. :grimacing:

That makes zero sense. Russia is not stupid. It doesn’t seem logical for Russia to invade an area that already has their support.

You didn’t hear the music, Reg? Mission Impossible theme song? It was a cat investigating the situation.

whar are the odds reggie is right about this after being wrong so much?
about the same as odessa erecting a statue of general sherman riding stalin to the final solution?
ok that’s fair

Agreed.

No they don’t. Biden has ruled out US troops being involved. You will send the Ukraine guns and bombs which they don’t dare use.

No, they’re not.

While I was obviously joking about Odessans shooting their own troops, it makes perfect sense for Russia to invade/annex the Odessa region. Have you forgotten that they just did this to Crimea a few years ago? Russia wants the territory to stabilize their gas sales to Europe, and despite Europe’s chest thumping, those sales will likely proceed uninterrupted. Moldova would probably be happy, too, to have a border with Russia.

On the other side of that thinking, the gas pipelines going through Ukraine are further north so for Russia to stabilize its gas supply, it would have to invade and annex most of Ukraine, not just the south-western part.

Biden has 8,500 on high alert.

We know Ukraine has requested air defense systems, anti-ship missiles, more Javelin anti-tank missiles, electronic jamming gear, radar systems, ammunition, upgraded artillery munitions and medical supplies. It’s already been reported they will probably get Stingers, Javelins, drones, and anti-ship missiles in the next package and still l feel sorry for them.

No, it doesn’t and no, I haven’t. A condemned act that caused Russia to be suspended from the G8, indefinitely.

You make it sound so simple but if Russia invades Ukraine, they risk sanctions on the Nord pipeline. That doesn’t include sanctions US Babylonians might put on them and Russia has a weakness in the microchip and microelectronic sector so they may think twice before they act.

I agree but…just don’t act like you don’t know that might cut Ukraine of roughly $2 billion in transit fees from Russia, if they succeed. How will that affect Ukraine and who absorbs the consequences of an invasion? Certainly not Russia.

Alert for what? Biden has ruled out US forces participating in a war. NATO has ruled out their forces. Joe may have told US troops to temporarily stop looking at Asian tranny porn and pay attention, but he won’t send them to war I don’t think.

That’s the thing. Europe can’t buy heat any cheaper anywhere. If they sanction the pipeline, they only hurt themselves as their own price for gas goes up. Russia loses not one cent.

This all goes back to Trump’s war with Huawei. At the time the Orange Idiot picked a fight with the Chinese, the USA dominated the chip market. Because everyone saw the disastrous effect a single US president could have on the chip market, all major players have started making chips. Huawei, Samsung, Apple, Google, Qualcomm and several other players are all now competitively in the game. The Orange Idiot played a card you can only play once, and now Russia can buy its chips from a half dozen other players and doesn’t care at all if the yanks won’t sell any to them.

Don’t be silly. If Ukraine becomes a subject of the Russian Federation, it would benefit far more than just $2 billion for transiting gas. It would lose those transit fees, of course, but it would gain access to the entire Russian market, wouldn’t have to pay for its own military or political infrastructure, and would become part of a huge tax-free trading bloc. Right now, Ukraine can’t even ship things tax free to the EU, generally, since it is not a member of that group.

The problem is that the north part of the country really doesn’t like Russia at all and would probably rather go to war than accept a Russian takeover. Let’s see how it plays out.

why do you look so unhappy?
do you have repetitive stress syndrome from hitting the stupid key so much?

Most of Moldovan territory was a part of the Principality of Moldavia from the 14th century until 1812, when it was ceded to the Russian Empire by the Ottoman Empire

then there was hard times

In 1940, as a consequence of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, Romania was compelled to cede Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina to the Soviet Union

then there was war

Don’t ask me, Reg. I’m just telling you what I’ve read. Biden is so wish-washy he doesn’t even obey his own rules.

That may very well be true but Germany has given the US their useless word if Russia invades. They may not keep their word and somehow I think they probably won’t.

I get that and it is a problem. I just hope Russia doesn’t create a bigger problem.

We’ll I’m sure they don’t like the power and control Russia tries to exert over them.

Why don’t you say something nice to him instead of hitting your stupid keys for self gratification.

Ukrainian already has more than a Russian problem with business owners protesting parliament.

Michele, you’re the only one here giving him the attention he so desperately craves. You might want to reassess that.
