A white cop just killed a black woman in texas in her home. I guess her black neighbor called the police because her front door was open with the light on at 2 am. So the cops showed up and went to a side window. Saw a shadow, told her to raise her hands and shot her. Definitely not murder. The neighbor feels awful and says he won’t call the cops anymore.

Well it wasn’t supposed to be but I’m sure I come off sarcastic sometimes.
In this case, the cop was responding. Nothing was premeditated. He shot someone he didn’t know. Seems to have handled it very poorly. He should be removed from certain duties and the family is going to get a boatload of money. I guess there was a weapon at the home.
Maybe not murder but certainly manslaughter. You can’t just see a shadow, tell it to raise its hands and then shoot it without any further cause.
Edited to add: I agree with your proposed punishment. There seems to be nothing gained in cases like this to imprisoning the shooter for long periods of time. The shooter is probably guilty of a crime, but that doesn’t mean I think they should be thrown in jail for 10 or 20 years.
Then what is the proper punishment? Lashes? Caning? Nothing?
That, of course, is the big question. If we focus on what is best for society, we should clearly just fire the shooter and then let him go. There’s effectively no chance of them doing it again so society doesn’t need to be protected from them. If we need some vengeance to make us feel better we should try something that doesn’t end up destroying our own society like a fine or community service. Perhaps if we fine him the money could go to the victim’s family. A prison society is a sick society.

I don’t have a problem with this. Someone immigrates to your country and then turns around and fights for ISIS, I say deport them.
