I agree with this.

In fact, what information being collected should be answered as well.

I don’t know how I can be more specific than this:

Then this weirdness:

Michele, what are you on about? State what you want to know and I’ll tell you.

I can’t make myself clearer.

What is thinki talking about here?

That is Nico talking about things he doesn’t understand, as usual. As you pointed out in your initial response to him, every site on the Internet runs on a server. Some data is stored or you wouldn’t be able to sign in. The question isn’t whether data is stored, it is what data is stored and how is it being used? I’ve answered very specifically what data is stored and how it is used on BBAD.

Now that I’ve answered factually, I will give some non-factual opinion. The fear isn’t that data is stored. No site could function without storing data. No site could let you log in without storing at least a username and password about you. The fear is that data you’re not aware of is being collected and used in a nefarious manner. Examples of this would be Facebook’s practice of carefully calculating how long you look at each image, and assigning AI to assess that image and create a profile of what kind of images move you. They then use that information to present you images that guide you in the directions they want you to go, usually advertiser driven.

A very specific example of this is that FB sees me looking at photos of watches and knives, and they see I click on those quite a lot. Now, I find 90% of the FB ads I see are of watches and knives, and 90% of the FB recommendations I get for groups and pages are of watches and knives.

Now, watches and knives, and even ads for watches and knives aren’t very nefarious, but the power this represents absolutely IS nefarious. If FB wanted to make me hate Biden or Trump, all they would have to do is do an AI analysis on the types of articles that move me (which in my case would be very empircal articles of an investigative nature) and present me articles that their AI matched to that description which were critical of Biden or Trump (whoever they wanted me to hate). They could, quite literally, change the result of the US election as they please. They could chip away at me over months and show me people sharing those articles until I caved and hated the person on their hit list.

Right now, we don’t have any evidence that they do that for political purposes, but perhaps even worse, they sell this capability to the highest bidder using FB ads. Putin can buy FB ads and do exactly what I described above. So can Sheldon Adelson, the Koch brothers and Michael Bloomberg. The US election is now simply an auction item sold to the highest bidder and FB, Google and Twitter are the sellers.

Anyway, that is what data harvesting is. That is we need to fear, not BBAD storing your username and password.

Is thinki talking about names and passwords? I didn’t get that impression.

That is nefarious, if you had no plan to go where they lead.

Nico only mentioned this information below. I’ve addressed each.

Regarding whether I’d give up the tiny amount of information I have about you, I answered that months ago.

We’ve been Facebook friends for years, Michele, which gives you access to everything I’ve posted on that site. If someone offered you a million dollars, would you give them all the information I’ve posted on Facebook?

No. It’s not mine to sell.

I like to think I wouldn’t sell someone else’s information, either. I’m pretty rational, though. While I’m very comfortable right now, I have experienced crushing debt in the past. I’m glad nobody offered me a million dollars to do anything unethical back then. I’m pretty sure I would’ve failed that test.

Ummm, I respectfully request you delete all my posts.

You do it. I’m not your employee.

lol. Do you have any idea how long that would take? Don’t you have a switch you can flip and delete everything on a user?

I don’t know and don’t care to look. If you seriously think that everything you have done on the net hasn’t been scraped and stored by government, from here to FB to TikTok to OAN to Infowars, you haven’t been paying attention. They already HAVE all this. Deleting it all now doesn’t delete their archive.

Edited to add: They also read all your email and private messages on Twitter.

I’m not as worried about them as as I am about enemies I may have here.

Your enemies here (which I do not know about, unless you’re talking about Will who is harmless as far as I can see), have had the ability to store every public thing you’ve done for the last 25 years.

Just relax and be acutely aware that big brother is watching you. He’s watching all of us.

We have not had privacy for years now. Surprised to learn you consider me an enemy and that I would try to use your babbling nonsense against you.

I thought falun gong was organ harvesting and when I looked it up I saw pictures of people meditating. I don’t know if they struck a gong and then harvested the organs.
I just remember finding pamphlets and leaflets.

You’d figure they would be desperate to harvest data after that.

People are always desperate for more data and sense of self validation. It is an uncontrollable and exploitable fear.
