Too disgusting to talk to Reggie on the phone or even try a radio app on cellular. I don’t have much interest in trying to make a chicken look or sound smart.
Reggie starts hearing chicken sounds and forget any attempts at communication.

What about those long periods of silence and no response or requests for you to repeat just so they can hear your voice not because they didn’t receive information?
I’m sure chicken Reggie has turned off the radio in mid conversation with you at least once.
Motorola radios (Vertex is a Motorola company) are amazingly tough.
Put a sock in it ChickenReggie or better yet over it next time you want to beak off like you are the smartest person in the world.
I think yaesu is part of vertex.

Since I will have the power supply and tuner, I can simply buy a transceiver for any other band for about $250.

As long as you stick with QRP, yes, but I doubt the power supply and tuner will handle 100 watts.
Correct. I still have my Kenwood station for more power. I’m curious about something. Hams used to be limited to 100 watts. Now I see references to 1500W. Know anything about this?

Yes, you get 1500 Watts PEP as a General in the US.

I could add a linear amplifier to the Kenwood but it would cost more than it is worth to me.
I think you’ll do amazingly well on CW with 5 watts. If you get into voice, you’ll probably want/need more, although I’ve seen some amazing stuff out of 5 watts even on voice.
I need to get out my paddles and start getting my speed up.
