You sure you can still get one? That’s an old model. My Vancouver club (VECTOR) has a bunch of them and I’ve handled that model many times. Kenwood HTs just don’t speak to me but they may to you. Lots of other guys at the club swear by Kenwood. The new model is the TH-D74 and it has a colour screen and some other nice features for only double the price. lol.
I am in an uncalm state of mind right now. The d74 is about $500 from just a quick check (gigaparts). I like the APRS feature. Did you no like the d74 or it just did not make a big impression on you?
I really encourage you not to buy until morning. I got like this with Nico a week or two ago and wanted him to be mauled by a pit bull, which I still think would be poetic justice but I admit it was unseemly. In that state of mind, it’s really best to take no actions of any kind until one has calmed down.
Re the TH-D74, I really just hate Kenwood handhelds. lol. I really like Kenwood overall but the menu system on their handhelds is just very confusing to me. I also feel they cram too much on the screen so it’s hard for me to figure out what’s going on at a glance. All of that said, they are HIGHLY respected and even I can feel the quality there. If they speak to you, you’ll be in good company.
Re APRS, I absolutely LOVE APRS. I think it’s a great feature for both normal use AND for emergency comms. I’ll try to find an old FB post I made re APRS and post it here.

Is it possible to use cw on those freqs? Does anyone?
CW on the APRS frequency? No, APRS is a packet format. If you have an APRS radio, it’ll dump your APRS messages and or beaconing info onto 144.390 (I think, going by memory) and the digipeaters in your area will listen for that and relay it to the APRS network.
not on the APRS but UHF/VHF
Oh, some people do it but it’s really not common. CW is an HF thing in the real world.
