German music

Uhm…no, lol. My english pronouncation is even worse than my writing. But trying to improve is all. Or at least just having fun, which I have.

Your entertainment is the only thing that matters.

Nope.

I grant myself some hot mulled wine tonight. Work is done this week, I have packed my bags and all the presents for my mum‘s birthday tomorrow as well as for the newborn and his parents on my way back on Friday. Now I can relax. :tumbler_glass:

Exactly these lyrics of Reinhard Meys song „Menschenjunges“ I wrote into the card for the parents of our family’s new member. A healthy boy.

I post two videos. The first from a female singer only, because of the English lyrics provided in the video. I prefer Mey’s version (of course).

Here’s the translation, as it‘s not shown automatically in the video.

I am glad my grand nephew has the chance to grow up in the countryside, just as his parents (and I) did. On a former farm, surrounded by forest and meadows. So he can see and do all those things described in that song by Mey. He got two great parents and thus the best chances for a good and decent life.

Menschenjunges (Human Cub)

Human cub, this is your planet
Here’s your destination, little bundle
Friendly bundle, welcome in
May life be good to you here

Well, finally here you are ready in your cradle
You’re all fresh and new and I’m crawling furtively
To you and only with a high self control I’m defeating
The curiosity to take you out there
In order to first look at you more closely
But now on your first day I satisfy myself
By standing embarrassedly in front of your cradle
And by imagining, what your life might bring

Human cub, this is your planet
Here’s your destination, little bundle
Friendly bundle, welcome in
May life be good to you here

May you know all that and experience all that
What is worth experiencing and what is important in life
May there still be meadows and trees and cockchafers
When you are of cockchafer collecting age
May there always be nails, string, marbles, braid
Paste, sherbet powder, coloured pencils and flint
Screwdrivers, insulating tape, modelling clay and liquorice
Be well stocked in your trouser pockets

Human cub, this is your planet
Here is your destination, little parcel
Friendly bundle, welcome in
May life be good to you here

And one day′s the day comes when I sit in trepidation
Perplexed by the schoolwork you’ve been given
Won’t be able to figure out your maths problems
For the essay I wrote for you
If you’re very lucky, you won’t get a detention
But to make up for it, I’ll go with you
Build kites, paint pictures and fly biplanes with you
And show you how to use a blowtorch and piano

Human cub, this is your planet
Here is your destination, little parcel
Friendly bundle, welcome in
May life be good to you here

A few years later, after many a bloody nose
After countless plasters over bruised knees
After broken windows, smashed vases
After failed educational theories
After recognised ineffectiveness of strict index fingers
Because you and I do every mischief together
Every gross mischief, and then we’ll do all the things
But which I must strictly forbid you until then

Human cub, this is your planet
Here is your destination, little parcel
Friendly bundle, welcome in
May life be good to you here

May you succeed in much of what you set out to do
Be satisfied when you succeed, and without arrogance
Try to advance your world a little bit
Be good to your human brothers as best you can
Well, then I wish you that I become a good father
That you find friends who love you and that you
enjoy the great adventure on earth
‘Break a leg’, there’s something coming your way

Human cub, this is your planet
Here’s your destination, little bundle
Friendly bundle, welcome in
May life be good to you here

Human cub, this is your planet
Here is your destination, small package
Friendly bundle, welcome in
May life be good to you here

After hearing my nieces delivery story I feel a bit less sad for not having a child of my own, lol. But she and her little boy are healthy and fine. Didn‘t know it was that serious, especially for him. Now if her partner just would build a less steep and long staircase. My dog nearly sled and fell down those minimum 10 meters and I can see already someone flying. That‘s a potential death trap.

I long for that little fellow to be able to talk.

Little comrade (Kleiner Kamerad)

For you everything is wholesome
And big and good and kept away from error
No wrong success ever took away your braveness
And for you there are still miracles, at all times and of all types
How much I like to see you believe in your miracles
How much you cling to them unerringly
No doubt can ever rob your optimism
And I almost start believing with you again myself

Like colourful lampions on autumn ways
You’re swinging through my mind
Happily and worryless and it’s due to you
If for once I’m again happy and worryless, too

The smallest nothing makes you passionate
On the other and world moving things leave you cold
No quarrel may ever put you down
And your tears dry soon over the biggest sorrow
You don’t forget anything and you can forget so easily
What ever puts you down is simply inexistent
I’m learning to measure anew with your arm’s length
And to understand many things around together with you

Like kites that highly go up over the stubble field
You’re dancing through my mind
Without gravity, free and with the dance
All my sadness is flying along

I like them a lot, your uncountable questions
Your curiosity and worrylessness
How much I like you saying “Come and help me”
Sometimes I wish I could hold on to this time
The world will probably get a little emptier
With every way you’re going on your own
My mind will probably get a little heavier
With everything you can do by yourself
and understand without me

My little comrade, that’s the way it is
There is no extra portion for us
Best friends are seperated by this life
And one day it makes adults out of little boys

I have learned I like the covers of most German songs better than the originals.

I am impressed I don‘t hear any non-german accent from the choir by the Stellenbosch University. Of course a choir can cover an accent easier than an individual, but nevertheless, that‘s unexpected.

I really love Nena. Most people just know her from 99 Luftballons which is still played everyday in both English and Deutsch over here.
Here is another video where she is not trying to hide her age . She always seems to have a message to push in through life even to the next. She doesn’t look like she did as a younger singer but she still is attractive in my opinion.
Licht. It’s like a daily renewal process. Not ignoring death, but it sets the mood with life.

Me too! I didn’t love this latest song but she’s super cool. And I agree, she’s still attractive.

It’s not her that you are attracted to. We don’t agree.
You can say you love someone as well and you’re attracted. But there is an undeniable true love and attraction that people recognize and remember from individuals.

You don’t like the song. You day she’s cool, even super cool. But if she’s cold if she’s hot it’s too much for you.
Not for me.
You don’t understand she gives me a :magnet:
I fell in love as a child, and the power and rage of attraction :magnet: were beyond what you are capable of not just in understanding. That feeling I have never lost and you have never known.
I kept it strong.

he shouldve ended with a nazi salute but its pretty good anyways

Mindless pop, but I like it. That guy looks older than me. lol.

EDIT: Omg a Liebe Ist cover. I love it.

reg enjoying schlager music?! lol someone get my dutch brother some lederhosen!

I even found a Schlager live stream! I actually find German a nice language to listen to. I know most don’t, but it sounds nice to my ears.

EDIT: They’re playing this, now. I love it. It’s a bit embarrassing to admit I like some Schlager.
