I don’t really like Mark. I am just used to him. He’s been part of my life for 25 years. He was really very cogent when we were all on the Zone in the 90s. Life kicked him in the nuts a few times and his mind isn’t the same now. He’s just waiting to die like everyone else on the planet. He makes a bit more noise doing that than most but that doesn’t bother me much. It bothers the hell out of some here. There’s an ignore feature if it bothers you enough to want to make his posts invisible to you.
I can’t define spam. I’ve actually tried a few times. Every definition I’ve come up with fails at least some tests I throw at it. It’s like the word exploitation that way.
The total free speech thing was a joke. Obviously you can’t have total free speech with an “unless”, especially an unless so trivial as my inconvenience. There is no total free speech here or anywhere else online. There is some free speech here. Perhaps more than in most places. Facebook will ban you these days if you hope Trump (or Biden) dies of Covid. Nobody cares if you do that here. I no longer even think total free speech is a good idea. I did once. I grew a bit.

Because if someone floods a thread with literally hundreds of messages at once, it makes it impossible for anyone else to follow a conversation. I wouldn’t see his posts, but everyone else would (unless they all hit ignore, too, and no group of people can ever agree unanimously to block one user). The forum would die.
I also dislike the ignore feature and never use it, myself. I like to see the universe as it is. If tech invents a pair of glasses that makes fat chicks invisible, would you wear them? The world would be more beautiful but it would be less real.
