no a sentence should not depend at all on the victim but solely on the crime committed…
To this I agree. And as I said, 20 years is a joke for that mass rape over 9 years.
a joke would be giving an old person a longer prison sentence than his life will last…
Sure, it‘s better to adjust a sentence to the culprits life expectancy. Now that‘s a joke. Or rather, slap the victim and her family right into their faces.
I do not want to participate in this thread, but I can’t resist asking a question. How would it help anyone, including a victim’s family, to sentence someone to a period of incarceration that they can never serve? Would you simply feel better seeing a big number in the sentencing for the nastiest criminals, sort of how judges grade gymnasts and figure skaters? This guy got a 20 in nastiness but someone even nastier would have gotten a score of 30 or 40?
lol this chamoy thipyaso woman got 141078 years for fraud (but only served 8)
no need to adjust anything, as i said a sentence should only depend on the crime committed
i think discussing whether an old guy needs to get 20 or 200 years instead of focussing on taking care of the victim is the real slap in the face of the victim, their family and all humanity
No, not like gymnast judges. Which suggestion alone speaks for your mind set. But I nevertheless answer seriously.
I prefer the US system. Hand the culprits the maximum jailterm (here it‘s 20 years) the culprits crime qualifies for it, regardless their age. Instead of further emotionally harm the victim and their family by reducing it only because the culprit wouldn’t be able to outlive it. What‘s so wrong with this approach? And btw., another issue where I prefer the US justice system. They deal with all the crimes someone has done. Contrary to Germany, which only deals with the most serious one and let the lesser bad crimes fall under the table. The sentences are also way to mild. This is why especially the most criminal people commit crimes over and over again. They laugh about the German „justice“ system. Ask the victims what they think about it, if their trial goes up in smoke and they don‘t get even the slightest justice.
The idea of a firm sentence time is silly.
Give a guy a 6 month sentence when he has stage 4 liver cancer and you’ve taken at least half of his remaining life, or perhaps you’ve sentenced him to life in prison with no parole. Give the same guy 6 months when he’s in perfect health and it’s just a short blip out of his life.
Sentence a poor father who stole something to six months in prison and his kids go hungry. Sentence a billionaire who stole something (probably much more valuable) to six months and he gets released after a few weeks for good behaviour and nobody notices.
Firm sentences are simplistic nonsense (much like absolute free speech and people who commit suicide being cowards).
Why do you now mix pears with apples, Reggie? I never said that a rich guy should get less punishment than a poor one. And in Germany, even the kids off a poor man who gets a 6 month sentence (I also doubt he even would get 6 months for mere stealing), would receive welfair and housing. No one would have to starve.
What could be of more value than to feed a hungry child?
sure, it may not seem fair (especially if you let your assumptions and imagination get the rich guy out sooner lol) but adjusting a sentence for a specific person just because you dont like someone…
now that is corrupt simplistic nonsense lol
Is that what Reg said, Nico? Or is that your opinion of his point of view?
yes!
Yes to both?
lol of course not, i told you often enough that i dont speak for anyone but me… so feel free to choose to which one(s) the yes applies to
But…you spoke for Reg when you said that he would adjust a sentence for a person just because he didn’t like them.
perhaps you should read again
Okay you said Reg was…
“adjusting a sentence for a specific person just because you dont like someone…”
no dear, i never typed anything with “reg was” (and certainly never with a capital r) and the rest was only part of 1 sentence of several sentences that i typed…
