No, it’s not just fat people and diabetes. First, a lot of diabetes is genetic and there’s no indication that a thin diabetic is particularly susceptible to this disease. They might be, but I have no numbers. This is all the ailments that come with wealth. Laziness. Driving across the street. Needing a personal trainer to come by three times a week to tell you you’re a useless sack of crap, which you already knew before you called him. Eating shit three meals a day and four snacks in between. Lack of exercise. Drug abuse (both prescription and recreational). All of these traits can evidence themselves in thin people with functional pancreases.
This is very much a rich country disease.

Would you rather be a fat, rich diabetic or a thin, poor person with an a1c right in the middle of the normal range? I think it is obviously the former. It’s much easier to eat oatmeal for 2 years rather than pull yourself out of poverty. If you’re rich you can even go to whole foods to get your oats and cinnamon.
You obviously have to be the slim well to do person for somebody else in your family.

As opposed to if you’re poor and have to grow your own? I see the advantage in all those preservatives. Who would want to give those up. Certainly not a rich person who undoubtedly has no taste or even a diabetic who is likely losing taste.
Speaking of taste, hubby went to the store for me yesterday. Standing next to a woman with no mask on. As he watched her smell the fruit, he over heard her say, “I can’t taste or smell anything.”
