I’m not sure. I’m trying to think of a better place on Earth in, say 1825.
I wouldn’t have chosen Europe. Only the super-rich had a good life in Europe in 1825. China along the Yangtze River Delta might have been good, but while the rest of China was stable under the Qing Dynasty, ordinary people were poor and life was difficult for them.
In the US in 1825, life sucked in many ways, but it might have been the greatest nation at that point. It wasn’t the most powerful, but it might have been the best.
So when Donald Trump says Make America Great Again, perhaps he means only white men in power, and getting rid of cars and electricity, which is exactly the path he’s on.
