American Exceptionalism

Sure eat all you can continental breakfast take a fruit or two or maybe a yogurt and fast some meals.

About this thread. Please do not create excess strife/division//schism and portray America as weak to hostile nations.

Don’t do that and no problems. Do it and you will be corrected.

Do you think America is weak, Mark?

I spent some time with ChatGPT tonight. China’s economy was once heavily dependent on exports to the US. They have slashed that over the last decade. Now, China’s exports to the US are just 2.5% or so of their GDP. They can easily afford to lose all trade with the US. They would make that up in just four to six months of normal growth.

If Donald Trump wants to tariff China, I would fully expect China to say “have fun, lardass” and get on with their day. It’s obviously time for Canada to do more trade with China.

LOLOLOL!!! Trust me, you don’t want their junk.

1980s thinking, Michele. They make the best things in the world these days, along with much junk. It’s far more complicated now.

No, it’s not. That’s you making it that way because you can’t think outside that tunnel.

They make it cheap so it breaks easily. I don’t see anything complicated there.

Every iPhone is made in China, Michele (except for a few made in India now).

iPhones are around a thousand dollars, Reg, and I need a new one every 2 years.

Do you feel they are of inferior quality because they’re made in China? Do you think they would be better if they were made in the US? Personally, I think they would be much worse if they were made in the US by union labour.

China exports 15% of its exports to America and has 502 billion dollars in exports a year to America in a trade surplus.

While that is true, exports only made up 19.74% of Chinese GDP. Exports are far less important to China than people think, and US exports in particular are almost nothing to China (between 2.5% and 3.5% of their GDP). Trump seems to think the entire Chinese economy is made up of selling crap on AliExpress. When the fat orange idiot realizes that isn’t the case, he will reverse course totally and his moronic supporters will say he’s playing 4D chess.

Everything they make is of inferior quality. After year one, I can push a button…nothing. Swipe up…nothing. My phone freezes up to the point I can’t get anything out of it and has to be rebooted to start again. That happens often.
Occasionally, I have to depend on Siri to answer a call and even with that, he/she often ignores or misunderstands me, which is extremely frustrating. iPhones are user-friendly, which is helpful for someone like me, but useless if I don’t keep upgrading and at the price I have had to pay, it should work better for me and last longer but it doesn’t and sometimes I just want to throw my phone against a wall.

You didn’t answer this question (above), Michele.

Some of the components in the iPhone are from the U.S. but I don’t like to brag, Reg, because we are a flawed nation and we could use an industrial facelift but what few products we make are of better quality so yes, imo, everything is better made here.

That has not been my experience. American cars and other products are generally simply inferior in my experience.

You must not be very experienced then.

Hahaha! There is nothing special about Chinese cars, Reg. They are priced low to sell. Very low. Maybe even the lowest globally.
Have you ever seen an Inline 4 next to a Vet? Hahahahahaha!!!

My guess is that I have vastly more experience in procuring, assessing and implementing American manufacturing than you do.

The fact that you think Chinese cars are inferior proves that you’re about 50 years behind on things. Vettes are dinosaurs. The latest cars by BYD, NIO, Xpeng, and Zeekr all blow away anything made in the US. Tesla makes more cars in China than in the US so I’m not sure how one should classify that company. Even Tesla’s best cars are made in China, though.

Tesla’s made-in-China cars lead market in quality while US-made Tesla cars score lowest

But…you just said “that has not been my experience”.

Oh, yeah, I see how you made that quick switch to electric.

Yes, Dahling! China is magnificent and U. S. sucketh.

It has not been my experience that Chinese made products are inferior to American made products, Michele.

And I didn’t “switch” to electric cars from gasoline powered cars. At no point were we talking about gas cars. I scrolled back four days. I just used Chinese cars (obviously electric) as an example of Chinese manufacturing being superior to US manufacturing, which it generally is.
